Nghe An: Group of children helplessly watch 7-year-old girl swept away by floodwaters
(Baonghean.vn) - While bathing in the river, a 7-year-old girl in Nghe An was swept away by a large current. Her friends ran along the riverbank to try to save her but were helpless.
On the afternoon of July 7, Lang Thi Quynh Nhu (7 years old, Hua Na village, Chau Hanh, Quy Chau), and a group of friends went to Hieu river near Ke Bang bridge to cool off. While bathing in the river, Nhu was unfortunately swept away by a large current.

"The children who were with her heard Nhu's cries for help and saw the victim being swept away by the current, so they ran along the riverbank to save her. But the children were too young to save her, so the group had to run home to call the adults," said a witness at the scene.
Mr. Cao Hoang Hai - Chairman of Chau Hanh Commune People's Committee, said that Nhu is a first grader at Tan Lac Town Primary School. "The local government is sending officials, militia, police officers and dozens of people to search for Nhu. As of nearly 5:00 p.m. this afternoon, there is still no trace of her," said Mr. Hai.

According to local people, at the time of Nhu's accident, the hydroelectric plant upstream was discharging water.
