The explosion occurred at the kiosk of Ms. Vo Thi Hien. At the time of the explosion, two sisters were removing rice paper from the conveyor belt. The extremely strong pressure of the gas cylinder explosion killed the older sister Dinh Thi Thao (21 years old) and seriously injured her younger brother Dinh Cao Nguyen (18 years old).

At the scene, the explosion of the gas cylinder caused the corrugated iron roof to warp and deform. Equipment and utensils in the kiosk flew everywhere. The brick wall separating the two kiosks collapsed. The terrible explosion also broke a concrete sewer.
