(Baonghean) - Although Yen Thanh district (Nghe An) has built and put into use a modern, spacious bus station, most of the sleeper buses operating in the district do not enter the station but spill out onto the street to pick up passengers, causing traffic safety problems and wasting investment money.

Continuously after Tet, on the road along the Vu Giang river, Lien Thanh commune (Yen Thanh), Tu Long sleeper bus company running the Yen Thanh - Hanoi route stops right in front of the house. Observing, the number of passengers pouring in is very large along with goods overflowing and encroaching on the road.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Tinh - a resident of Lien Thanh said: Every time I pass through this road, there is often a traffic jam due to 2 sleeper buses encroaching on the road. I request the authorities to handle this to ensure traffic for people to travel.

Similarly, on National Highway 7B, Hoa Thanh Commune (Yen Thanh), Dung Anh sleeper bus company running the Yen Thanh to Da Nang and Hue routes also parked right in front of the house to pick up passengers and opened the hatch to store goods, causing traffic jams that made people on the road extremely upset. Some other routes were also encroached by passenger buses, such as the routes of Hop Thanh Commune, Yen Thanh Town, Quang Thanh Commune, etc.

A representative of the Yen Thanh District Traffic Police said: The district police have regularly propagated and mobilized vehicles to enter the station, but many bus companies have not complied. Since the beginning of 2020, the district police have handled more than 10 passenger vehicles violating parking regulations, including temporarily detaining 4 small passenger transport vehicles that were past their inspection deadline, with a fine of over 40 million VND.

While sleeper buses mostly spill out onto the streets to pick up passengers, Yen Thanh District Bus Station has been deserted for several years now with no vehicles entering. Mr. Bui Huy Nhuan - Director of Yen Thanh District Bus Station said: Yen Thanh District Bus Station has been in use since 2018, with a total area of over 10,000 m2, meeting the needs of over 70 sleeper buses. Yen Thanh district currently has nearly 20 sleeper bus companies with over 60 sleeper buses running the Yen Thanh route to Da Nang, Hue, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City...

The reason why bus companies are reluctant to enter the station is because for a long time, passenger buses have been used to picking up passengers right at home. The road leading to the bus station has not been invested in and is degraded... Currently, the relevant departments have agreed to allow vehicles from Yen Thanh district bus station to depart to bus stations in provinces and cities across the country. We hope that the relevant departments will soon have a solution to bring sleeper buses in Yen Thanh district to the bus station to complete the procedures to receive a circulation badge.

The construction of Yen Thanh bus station has been approved by the provincial People's Committee in order to solve traffic safety issues in the district. Currently, the district is actively solving some existing difficulties to soon bring passenger cars to the station, ensuring traffic safety and customer benefits.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Ha - Vice Chairman of Yen Thanh District People's Committee
