Nghe An: Community-based training on safety inspection of small and medium dams

(Baonghean.vn) - The training program aims to contribute to proactively responding to natural disasters, equipping local officials with more knowledge about lake and dam safety to handle incidents when they occur.

February 14, in the districtMr. Son, The Vietnam Dam Safety Project organized a training course on “Community-based safety inspection of small and medium dams” for commune and district officials who monitor dams and reservoirs and are in charge of disaster response.

This program is part of the "Vietnam - New Zealand Dam Safety" Project - implemented by the University of Water Resources in collaboration with GNS Science and Damwatch Engineering of New Zealand.

One of the activities of the Project is to develop Guidance Documents and organize training courses on rapid testing.Small and medium dam safetyCommunity-based approaches help localities strengthen their capacity to recognize dam problems early and take timely action.

At the training session, leading experts in the field of irrigation from the University of Water Resources and ministries and branches disseminated related contents such as: Overview of the safety of small and medium dams in Vietnam; signs of dam safety loss; measures to conduct inspection and assessment of dam safety...

At the workshop, experts also discussed a number of contents such as: Orientation on prevention, control and mitigation of adverse impacts of natural disasters related to water and climate change in the Central region; Water security in Nghe An, challenges and solutions; Sustainable development of irrigation infrastructure, ensuring water security, safety of dams and reservoirs to serve the rapid and sustainable socio-economic development of Nghe An province.

Through the course, the students have acquired a lot of useful knowledge, better understood the incidents in dams and related construction items, thereby understanding the causes as well as effective solutions to overcome incidents in the management and repair of dam projects. This is important knowledge for the students to successfully complete the assigned tasks at their work units.

It is known that previously, the project successfully organized training courses in 3 districts of Dien Chau, Nam Dan, Yen Thanh with 110 trainees.

On February 15 and 16, the training program continued to be held in Tan Ky and Thanh Chuong districts.
