Nghe An: Fishing boat sinks after hitting a reef, 18 fishermen escape

(Baonghean.vn) - On December 1, fishing boat NA - 90489 - TS, owned and captained by Mr. Bui Chi Dung, Cong Hoa village, Quynh Long commune (Quynh Luu), and 17 fishermen on board, were on their way to exploit seafood when they hit a reef, causing billions of dong in damage.

Due to fog obscuring visibility, the ship crashed into Hon Cho reef, in Quynh Thuan commune (Quynh Luu), about 1 km from the mainland, causing the ship to break apart, stall and sink into the sea. The fishermen on the ship called other ships, and 17 fishermen on the ship were promptly rescued by the ships on the same trip.

With the support of local authorities, Quynh Thuan Border Guard Station and many vessels and hundreds of fishermen, by dawn on December 2, the wrecked fishing boat was towed to Lach Quen Port for repair.

Fishing boat NA 90489 –TS with a capacity of 420 CV, invested jointly by Mr. Bui Chi Dung and 10 other fishermen, has a value of over 7 billion VND.

It is known that the Hon Cho estuary has been dredged many times but still causes ships to run aground and sink due to the location having many reefs. In 2015, at this location, 2 fishing boats ran aground or hit reefs, causing property damage with a total loss of billions of VND.
