Forecast: Due to the influence of the compressed low pressure trough, from this afternoon and evening (May 20) to May 21, in the North Central provinces, there will be widespread thunderstorms, with some places experiencing moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms (common rainfall of 30-60mm/24 hours, some places over 80mm/24 hours).

Thunderstorms are likely to produce tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong winds.

Monitoring shows that convective clouds are developing strongly in the areas of Ky Son, Que Phong (Nghe An), Thuong Xuan (Thanh Hoa) districts and the Vietnam - Laos border. The main direction of movement is Northeast.

In the next 3 hours, in the districts of Ky Son, Tuong Duong, Que Phong, Quy Chau, Quy Hop, Tan Ky, Yen Thanh, there will be thunderstorms and heavy showers.

This afternoon (May 20), the Standing Office of the Provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control issued Official Dispatch No. 50/VP-PCTT on responding to widespread thunderstorms in the North and North Central regions.

The document clearly states:This is a thunderstorm occurring right after a severe heat wave, so it is very likely that thunderstorms, lightning, hail and extremely strong gusts of wind will occur. In order to proactively take effective measures to prevent natural disasters, the Standing Office of the PCTT-TKCN Command requests the Chairman and Head of the Command Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of districts, cities, towns, the Provincial Military Command, the Provincial Border Guard Command and related units to implement the following contents:

1. Closely monitor forecasts and warnings of heavy rain and thunderstorms to promptly inform authorities and people at all levels so that they can proactively take appropriate preventive measures to ensure safety for people, property and production.

2. Organize on-duty shifts, regularly update information and report to the Standing Office of the Provincial Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control.
