Nghe An: Handling over 900 forestry law violations in 2017
(Baonghean.vn) - Speaking at the conference summarizing forest protection work in 2017, comrade Dinh Viet Hong requested that localities and forest owners need to learn from experience, overcome existing shortcomings, and promptly deploy tasks of forest protection and forest fire prevention and control in 2018.
On the afternoon of March 20, under the chairmanship of Mr. Dinh Viet Hong, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee - Head of the Steering Committee for Sustainable Forestry Development in the province for the period 2016 - 2020, the Provincial People's Committee held a conference to review forest protection and development work in 2017 and deploy key tasks in 2018.
In 2017, Nghe An province has successfully implemented the plan, well protected the existing forest area of 941,846 hectares; the total area of concentrated planted forests in the province reached nearly 18,112 hectares. The situation of forest encroachment and illegal slash-and-burn cultivation was strictly managed, eliminating many hotspots of deforestation. Forest rangers coordinated with functional forces to organize more than 4,530 forest patrols, more than 9,000 forest product control patrols, administratively handled 901 cases of forestry law violations, and collected 13,169 billion VND for the budget.

However, during the year, in the province, there are still two groups of behaviors that have occurred, are occurring and are still latent for a long time, threatening the safety of natural forests in the province, which are: Illegal logging in resource-rich areas, border areas adjacent to Laos and the act of cutting down natural forests, which are poor forests, and restored forests to get land for afforestation.
In 2018, the Forestry sector set a goal of increasing the added value of agricultural products; doing a good job of forest fire prevention and control, protecting more than 940,500 hectares of forest; planting new and reforesting 73,000 hectares of post-exploitation forests; planting 5 million scattered trees...

It is necessary to synchronously deploy solutions such as: Strengthening propaganda and inspection of the implementation of forest protection plans in localities and forest owners. Timely detecting and handling violations, and at the same time directing good coordination between relevant forces. Forest owners proactively develop protection and fire prevention plans suitable to actual and specific conditions.

In particular, Nghe An is currently entering the dry and hot season, the Forestry force and localities need to strengthen direction and urge the implementation of fire prevention and control, arrange patrol forces in key forest areas prone to fire, proactively develop fire prevention and control plans and effectively implement the 4 on-site motto in fire prevention and control.
