Listening to the 'fake' police, a woman was cheated out of more than 2 billion VND in savings
Being repeatedly “attacked”, a woman withdrew all of her savings of more than 2 billion VND deposited into the account of a man claiming to be a police officer, only to be scammed out of everything…
According to the complaint of Ms. NTN, residing in Ba Dinh District (Hanoi), on April 20, 2023, Ms. N. was at work when she received a phone call from a person claiming to be a ward police officer checking her personal information. Afterwards, this "police officer" said that Ms. N.'s citizen identification card was impersonated by a bad person to borrow 1 billion VND from the bank.
At that time, the victim had repeatedly stated that she did not borrow money. But the impersonator continued to “attack” by saying that Ms. N. was involved in a transnational drug ring and needed to verify the bank accounts that received money from… her accomplices.
Being attacked repeatedly, confused and scared because he thought someone was taking advantage of him, when asked to transfer all the money he had into the "police" account for "investigation", the victim complied.
