(Baonghean.vn) - African swine fever appeared in Nghi My commune, Nghi Loc district (Nghe An) 4 days ago, however, the epidemic prevention work here has not been guaranteed.

Previously, on April 30, at Mr. Ngo Tri Hao's family in Hamlet 7, Nghi My Commune, Nghi Loc District, 5 sick pigs appeared. Test results showed that Mr. Hao's family's pigs tested positive for African swine fever. Nghi Loc District destroyed Mr. Hao's family's herd of 11 pigs according to the correct procedure.

On the morning of May 3, at Nghi My commune, according to the reporter's observation, the route leading to Nghi My commune from N5 road has 2 checkpoints, each checkpoint has police and military forces on duty. At each checkpoint, there is a disinfection pit.

However, the disinfection pits here are not properly implemented: No tarpaulin is used, only a thin layer of straw is covered on the road surface, then lime powder is sprinkled and disinfectant chemicals are sprayed on. Doing so will make the disinfection pit ineffective because it cannot retain moisture.

In addition, the two roads connecting from hamlet 7 (where the outbreak occurred) to hamlets 5 and 4 do not have checkpoints and do not have on-duty personnel, posing a potential risk of spreading the epidemic from one hamlet to another through people's interactions and movements.

Mr. Hoang Duc Tri - Chairman of Nghi My Commune People's Committee said: Currently, the whole commune has over 400 pigs, mainly raised on a small scale, only 1 household raises over 30 pigs; of which hamlet 7 has 51 pigs. Immediately after the outbreak of African swine fever, the commune announced on the commune loudspeaker to inform all people, and at the same time banned pig slaughter in the commune.

After receiving 60 liters of chemicals from the district, the commune sprayed chemicals on the roads of hamlet 7 and some neighboring hamlets as well as inside and outside the barns of households raising pigs in the commune.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Quang - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Nghi Loc district said: On the afternoon of May 3, the district will direct the Veterinary Department and Nghi My commune to strictly implement regulations on prevention and control of African swine fever, avoiding negligence and subjectivity, allowing the epidemic to break out.

African swine fever is spreading from one locality to another, very unpredictable. Therefore, localities where the epidemic occurs, need to strictly implement regulations on disease prevention, especially to limit outsiders from entering the epidemic area, because African swine fever is easily spread through means of transport and people.
