(Baonghean.vn) - Veteran Nguyen Van Le in Dong Song hamlet, Nghia Yen (Nghia Dan) is not only a dedicated branch president but also a shining example in economic development.

In 1982, after returning from the army, veteran Nguyen Van Le went to build a new economic zone in Dong Song, Nghia Yen commune, Nghia Dan district. With the courage of a soldier, he did not fear difficulties, and with his family reclaimed the difficult land to build the economy. Thanks to his diligence and hard work, his family now has more than 2 hectares of sugarcane, 1 hectare of acacia forest, grows fruit trees, raises buffalo and cows, digs ponds to raise fish, and earns over 100 million VND per year.

As a veteran association leader of Dong Song branch and head of the Liaison Committee for soldiers participating in Quang Tri citadel in 1972 of Nghia Dan district, he regularly contacts, visits and encourages his comrades; calls on members to build a comrade fund to help members improve their lives.

In 2016, the Dong Song Veterans Association Fund, Nghia Yen Commune, built over 16 million VND for 4 members to borrow and develop the economy. In the commune alone, up to now, there are no poor members but they have actively participated in donating land to build 1,856m of road and more than 100 working days to build new rural areas.

Mr. Le Ngoc Hoa - Chairman of the War Veterans Association of Nghia Yen Commune said: "Currently, the commune has 8 comrades who participated in the battle of Quang Tri ancient citadel. Although they are old and weak, they always unite to help each other develop the economy and visit each other to encourage each other in life."

With his achievements in association work, Mr. Nguyen Van Le was awarded the Medal of Soldier for Protecting Quang Tri Citadel by the People's Committee of Quang Tri province in 1972, and was awarded a Certificate of Merit by the People's Committee of Nghia Dan district for association work for many consecutive years.
