After the heavy rain on the night of October 7, on October 8, cracks continued to appear at the landslide site at Cay Chanh (Hamlet 1, Lang Son Commune, Anh Son). Worried that the landslide would continue when there was heavy rain, local residents bought tarps to cover the land in front of their houses to prevent rainwater from pouring in, causing the soil to absorb water andlandslidesmore.

Mr. Vo Van Loi, a resident, said: "My family bought 3 tarpaulins with an area of 120m22, spread over the landslide in front of the house, using bricks and stones to cover it. The purpose is that when there is heavy rain, rainwater flows through the canvas into the river without eroding directly into the ground, limiting landslides.

Currently, many households have followed Mr. Loi's example by buying tarpaulins to cover the eroded land. Other households that cannot afford to buy tarpaulins use corrugated iron sheets or iron or steel sheets to cover the eroded land to prevent rainwater from seeping into the ground.

Mr. Pham Van Bac, a resident in the landslide area, said: “Now we don’t know how to prevent the landslide. The district and commune have leveled and compacted the cracks, but with heavy rain, the soil has become soft and the cracks have reappeared.

It continued to rain, and households were impatient, so those who could afford it bought tarpaulins to cover the area. As for our family, we used old cement roofing sheets to cover the landslide in front of our house.

Despite efforts to save the landslide situation, households said it was like "a drop in the ocean" when the land had been "saturated" with water for a long time, the foundation was weak so the landslide continued.
