Khe Nong is 40 km away from Chau Khe commune center by forest road. To get here, you have to cross 8 streams. In the dry season, it is isolated, but in the rainy season, this place is completely isolated.
Mr. Kha Van Thuong - Vice Chairman of Chau Khe Commune People's Committee said: "Realizing that the land was fallow while people growing upland rice did not have enough to eat, the commune was determined to reclaim the land to help people produce. Up to now, the commune has reclaimed and leveled 14 hectares."
After reclaiming the land, the commune distributed short-term hybrid rice seeds to the people and showed them how to take care of the rice. With the new rice variety, all the people in Dan Lai were excited. Taking advantage of the water, the Border Guard Station officers guided the people to plow, dig soil to fence each field, then showed them how to sow rice seedlings, transplant rice according to the agricultural calendar, pick weeds, stir mud, and take care of the rice.

Mr. La Van Quynh’s family, like other households in Khe Nong, experimented with growing short-term hybrid rice on reclaimed land. Mr. Quynh said: “People only grow upland rice, the seeds are sown by digging holes and then left to the elements until harvest. This year, with guidance from cadres and soldiers on how to grow hybrid rice, after three months of planting, there are many flowers and full grains.”

Thanks to knowing how to care for and prevent diseases for rice, 3 hectares of rice in Khe Nong grow well and are expected to yield 51-52 quintals/ha.
This is a success from the "skillful mass mobilization" of the Chau Khe Commune People's Committee officials and the Chau Khe Border Guard Station soldiers. With rice plants, people can focus more on economic development, know how to take care of chickens and pigs, grow vegetables, protect the forest... comply with all policies of the Party and laws of the State, contributing to maintaining security in the border area.
