Wu Tianxi, an employee of a road and bridge company in Guizhou, China, takes his 93-year-old mother, who has Alzheimer’s disease, to work every day to take care of her. On weekdays, he wakes up at 5 a.m., helps his mother clean up, get dressed, and then goes to work together. Wu has been doing this for three years.
Three years ago, Wu’s mother developed dementia, lost her way home, and went missing several times. Her illness then got worse, and she could no longer remember her children’s names or her own. Doctors diagnosed Wu’s mother with Alzheimer’s. The Chinese man shared that he was uneasy about leaving his mother alone at home without anyone to take care of her. Wu took his mother to work so that he could take advantage of the time to look after her while he worked.
Wu’s mother walked around the yard, enjoying the sunlight while her son worked. Although she no longer recognized Wu, she often looked for him. Workers at the bridge company had grown accustomed to seeing Wu’s mother go to work with her son every morning. They praised his filial piety and thoughtfulness. However, because he was busy taking care of his mother, Wu rarely showed up at gatherings with friends. His social relationships gradually diminished as a result.
Some people suggested that Wu send his mother to a nursing home, but he replied: "She has worked hard all her life to support me and my brothers and sisters. She doesn't want to be a burden to us in her old age. She can't take care of herself now, so I will help her with those things."
Wu added that his mother is 93 years old and does not have much time left with her children. Wu hopes that she will always be healthy and live longer so that he can feel the warmth of his mother's love.
