Man sentenced to 12 years in prison for opposing government
Quang Binh Provincial People's Court sentenced Mr. Nguyen Trung Truc, a member of the Brotherhood for Democracy, for activities aimed at overthrowing the government.

On September 12, the People's Court of Quang Binh province opened the first instance trial of defendant Nguyen Trung Truc (44 years old) for the crime ofActivities aimed at overthrowing the people's government, according to Clause 1, Article 79 of the 1999 Penal Code.
Mr. Truc was accused by authorities of being one of the leaders of the "Brotherhood for Democracy" with the roles of People's Spokesperson, Head of Training Committee and Head of the Central Branch.

At the end of the trial, the panel of judges declared that Mr. Truc had committed a crime under Article 79 above and sentenced him to 12 years in prison. He was placed on probation for 5 years after completing his prison sentence.
