According to Ms. Lan, in 1995, while working part-time, she was tricked by a woman and sold to a man in Guangxi province for 3,000 yuan. At that time, she was just 19 years old. Having been bought as a wife, Ms. Lan tried many times to escape back to her country but was unsuccessful.
Speaking to Nghe An Newspaper reporter, Mr. Ta Van - Chief Lawyer of Blue Dragon Children's Organization said that during her time in China, Ms. Lan was sold and resold many times by many owners. "She also escaped many times to near the border, but then all her luggage was robbed. She did not have any identification papers so she had to accept it," said Mr. Van - the person who directly brought Ms. Lan back to reunite with her family.

In early July 2019, Ms. Lan accidentally learned that a Vietnamese woman had also been tricked and sold to China. This person helped her share the video on social media in the hope that she could find her family. In the video clip that went viral online, although her mother tongue was not clear, Ms. Lan still remembered her mother's name, father's name and hometown in Nghi Thinh commune (Nghi Loc). From then on, clues about her family gradually became clear because relatives in her hometown knew that she was still alive.

"Within just 48 hours of receiving information about this case, we successfully organized a rescue to bring the victim back to her hometown. However, due to being tricked and sold many times, when the rescue team approached, Ms. Lan still did not trust us. It took us a long time to convince her," said the Chief Lawyer of the Blue Dragon Children's Organization.
Nghe An police also received Ms. Lan's complaint to investigate the ring that tricked and sold this woman to China.
