(Baonghean) -The Yen Tinh flood center (Tuong Duong) has very little land, so finding a construction site is difficult. To build welfare facilities, many local people have volunteered to donate land.

We visited Yen Tinh 2 Primary School on a day in early May. The school has 2 spacious floors with 20 spacious classrooms, a clean concrete yard, and many trees in the middle of the yard. Mr. Nguyen Dang Hai, the school's principal, said: "Recently, the school was highly appreciated by the delegation of the Nghe An Department of Education and Training for its infrastructure system, and it will probably be recognized as a national standard school soon. First of all, thanks to the investment of capital from the State, but also thanks to the kindness of Mr. Vi Vu Quang who donated land to build the school."

In 2012, the State invested in building a new primary school in Yen Tinh commune at a higher location to avoid flash floods. Because the school was previously located in a low-lying area, next to the Cha Ha River, whenever it rained heavily, students had to stay home from school because of flash floods. During the implementation process, the district organized a survey of the new location, but unfortunately, this remote commune is mainly mountainous, the land fund is too limited, there is no suitable place to build a safe and solid school.

Stemming from his love for children, as Chairman of the Commune People's Committee, Mr. Vi Vu Quang (now Secretary of the Commune Party Committee) discussed with his family and decided to donate 4,350 m2land in Hat village to build a school. This is a beautiful land, nearly 1km from the commune center, located next to Yen Tinh - Huu Khuong road, is forestry land, where his family has planted acacia for many years. "Determining that donating land will affect income, but for the safety and future of children in the villages in the commune, my family agreed to donate the entire area of land without compensation, support and also donate all the acacia to serve the construction of the school" - Mr. Quang shared.

At the same time in 2012, the Education Department of Tuong Duong needed land to build a primary school in Pa Khom - Huoi Pai to replace the old temporary and frequently flooded school, aiming to meet national standards. And here, there was also difficulty in finding a location, the People's Committee of the commune was forced to call on the people of Huoi Pai village to donate land to build a school. Faced with that situation, Mr. Vi Van Quynh - a farmer with "muddy feet and hands" discussed with his wife and children and decided to donate 1,500 m2 of land to build a primary school. Mr. Quynh's land is also in a beautiful location, the border between Pa Khom and Huoi Pai villages, so it is very convenient for students to go to class. Thanks to that, up to now, children of the two villages have been studying in spacious, solid rooms, not afraid of flooding.

Mr. Quynh confided: “My land donation is simply because I don’t want the children in the village to repeat my situation in the past - having to study in a makeshift school, having to cross streams and forests for more than 10km to get to the commune center. Now seeing the children studying in a new, spacious school, I am very happy!”

Not only the children, but also the villagers in Yen Tinh commune are always grateful to the families of Mr. Vi Vu Quang and Vi Van Quynh, thanks to the two men donating land, their children can study in spacious and safe schools. And from here, there have been more examples of donating land to build welfare projects such as Mr. Vi Van Lam (Cap Chang village), Vi Van An (Hat village) donating land and trees to build electricity lines to the village...
