Shrimp with white spot disease |
According to information from the provincial Veterinary Department, the area of diseased shrimp in Vinh City is 2.55 ha/8 ponds; Quynh Luu is 4.9 ha/6 ponds and Hoang Mai Town is over 2 ha. Monitoring results of diseased shrimp areas all detected white spot pathogens in the supply and drainage canal systems. In the alternating rainy and sunny weather conditions, the cloudy sky is favorable for the virus to develop and cause strong disease.

Up to now, the diseased shrimp area of Quynh Luu has been promptly isolated and controlled by the authorities in coordination with the locality. Regarding the diseased shrimp area of Hung Hoa commune, Vinh city, Mr. Dang Van Minh, deputy head of the provincial veterinary department, said: The diseased areas are all extensively farmed, not in the province's shrimp farming planning area. People do not properly apply technical processes related to environmental treatment before farming in terms of salinity, pH, alkalinity and prescribed thresholds of toxic gases; purchased shrimp seeds are not reported to the authorities and are not quarantined. Therefore, when the disease occurs, the state will not support epidemic prevention.
Mr. Tran Xuan Hoc, Deputy Head of the Provincial Department of Aquaculture, warned: Almost every year, white spot disease occurs in newly released shrimp areas. This year, the diseased area is not large and has been isolated and promptly treated, so shrimp farmers should not panic.
In areas where shrimp have been released, it is necessary to manage the farming environment well, environmental factors must be ensured to be within the appropriate threshold for shrimp, especially in the current unfavorable weather conditions. There are solutions to prevent hosts such as crabs and crabs from carrying pathogens into the pond. Particularly in ponds that have not been released, water intake and water treatment when entering the pond must ensure proper technical procedures. When buying shrimp breeds, it is necessary to notify the authorities, go through quarantine, and ensure that the released shrimp are disease-free.
