Disease prevention and control work after storms, especially after storm No. 5, is being effectively implemented in Nghe An. There are no new outbreaks of disease in the province.

Floods caused by storm No. 5 inundated 25 households in Chau Binh commune. Doctor Vi Thi Hien - Head of Chau Binh Commune Health Station said: After storms, water sources are often dirty, creating conditions for bacteria, viruses and parasites to thrive, leading to the spread of pathogens.

Common diseases include skin diseases (itching, pimples, athlete's foot, athlete's foot, scabies, dermatitis, folliculitis, etc.), intestinal and digestive diseases (diarrhea, cholera, typhoid), eye diseases (pink eye, trachoma), and gynecological diseases caused by bathing in dirty water.

On August 28, immediately after receiving additional Cloramine B and Aquatabs from Quy Chau Medical Center, Chau Binh Commune Health Station deployed disease prevention and control activities for the people.

The station sent medical staff to coordinate with village and commune health workers to organize spraying of disinfectants and directly propagate and instruct flooded households to clean domestic water wells, pumping wells, and disinfect water with chemicals; at the same time, provide medical examination and treatment for people in flooded areas who are unable to go to medical facilities due to difficult circumstances.

With direct guidance and support from doctors and nurses in environmental sanitation and water sources, Mr. and Mrs. Nguyen Huu Phuoc - Luong Thi Oanh, in Ke Khoang village, shared: "During this storm No. 5, the water level in the house was 1.2m high. Medical staff came to the house to help clean the hospital room and ensure a clean water source. The family is very grateful."

Similarly, as soon as the water receded, officers and staff of the Quy Chau Commune Health Station were present at flooded households to deploy disease prevention and control solutions... In Tan Huong village, medical staff went to every alley and knocked on every door to provide support to the people.

Mr. Dau Duc Thuan, house number 36, Chieng Ngam street, Tan Huong village expressed: "The storm has flooded and soaked many of the family's belongings. Flood water also entered the clean water system. The family is very worried. Luckily, there are always medical staff accompanying..."

Storm No. 5 flooded about 400 households in Quy Chau, Chau Binh and Chau Tien communes. To prevent possible outbreaks of disease, the center has directed stations to urgently spray chemicals and disinfect domestic water. At the same time, the center also directed stations to coordinate with hamlets and villages to promote propaganda to raise awareness of disease prevention through the loudspeaker system at least once a week; organize direct propaganda in village meetings.

For people's health

In late August, many localities in the province were also flooded due to the impact of storm No. 5. In Tan Ky district (old), the storm and rain isolated 16 hamlets, 441 households were flooded; along with that, 584 sanitary works and wells were flooded...

Faced with this situation, Tan Ky Medical Center has directed 22 medical stations to review and count flooded areas; at the same time, carry out environmental treatment measures to prevent and control epidemics.

Doctor Nguyen Viet Xuan - Deputy Director of Tan Ky Medical Center stated: The Center has also requested stations to maintain a strict monitoring regime for infectious disease cases; prepare human resources, supplies, chemicals, and medicines to thoroughly handle outbreaks if any; and strengthen health education and communication on how to prevent epidemics during the rainy and stormy season.

Following the direction, on August 28-31, officers and employees of 22 health stations coordinated with village and hamlet health workers, organizations, unions, local authorities and people to collect waste and dead animals, treat them with lime powder or Cloramin B chemicals; spray disinfectants in flooded areas; clear sewers and remove stagnant water to limit mosquito breeding.

Doctor Lo Thi Huyen - Head of Ky Tan Medical Station said: Ky Tan Medical Station proactively went to each household to guide people on how to clean, disinfect their houses and treat wells. Not leaving people to fend for themselves, grassroots medical staff went to the place, enthusiastically guided and served wholeheartedly.

In response to storm No. 5, Nghe An Department of Health established 4 working groups for natural disaster prevention, control and search and rescue. During and after the storm, these 4 working groups were present to grasp the situation, inspect the damage and promptly direct the work to overcome the consequences.

At this time, the Department of Health has been and is continuing to direct units to deploy measures to prevent and control epidemics and maintain environmental sanitation after the storm.

With the synchronous and drastic participation from the provincial to grassroots levels, along with the proactiveness of the people, the work of preventing and controlling epidemics after storm No. 5 is being effectively implemented. The whole province has not recorded any new outbreaks of disease.
