Replicating the movement of good farmers in production and business in Tuong Duong

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Dung's family residing in Hoa Bac block, Thach Giam town is a typical example.production, business(SXKD) good. Since 2017, his family decided to invest hundreds of millions of dong to build a 2,000m2 barn to raise pigs and chickens. Each batch, the family raises 500 - 600 pigs; 600 - 700 chickens and more than 10 fattened cows, earning an income of 200 - 600 million dong/year.

Mr. Dung shared: Due to the harsh weather in Tuong Duong, being located in a mountainous area with inconvenient transportation, the cost of investing in building a farm as well as the cost of materials and animal feed is also higher than in the lowland area. Mr. Dung himself, after completing the barn and raising the first batch, encountered many difficulties in terms of capital, environment, knowledge, methods, breeding techniques and disease situation.

From the second and third years onwards, things began to stabilize. Currently, Mr. Dung's family farm not only provides jobs for family members, but also for many local workers.

In Tuong Duong district, farmers' production and business activities are carried out based on the characteristics of each region. This also contributes to the diversity of production and business products. Even in Nga My commune - a remote commune of the district, the family of Lo Van Dan, an O Du ethnic group, has known how to raise buffaloes and cows, bringing high economic value.

Mr. Dan shared that more than 10 years ago, his family faced many difficulties. In 2011, after receiving a loan of 20 million VND from the policy fund, he decided to buy a pair of mother and baby buffaloes to raise. After 4 years, from the initial 2 buffaloes, Mr. Dan's family had 7 buffaloes to continue raising. Up to now, by selling, buying and breeding his family's buffaloes, Mr. Dan has a herd of 20 buffaloes and 10 cows.

Thanks to being trained in livestock farming knowledge, Mr. Dan also invested in building barns according to regulations, choosing a suitable location, ensuring hygiene and no environmental pollution. The family also focused on expanding the grass growing area to have food for buffaloes and cows without having to let them roam freely. Thanks to proper care and regular vaccinations, the buffaloes and cows of Mr. Dan's family grew and developed evenly, bringing high economic value, helping the family from a poor household to become quite rich in the locality.

Not only relying on traditional crops and livestock, many farming households in Tuong Duong also proactively seek new varieties of plants and animals to build production models for their families. In Tam Bong village, Tam Quang commune, Mr. Luong Van Sa's family surprised everyone with a commercial cricket farming model that brings high economic value. After borrowing 100 million VND from the bank, Mr. Sa went to cricket farms in and outside the province to learn from their experiences. After mastering cricket farming techniques, Mr. Sa invested 80 million VND to build a barn and buy breeding animals.

From the initial 20 cages, his family has now expanded to 45 cages. In addition to raising crickets, Sa's family now also raises quails, investing in buying additional cutting machines, grinding machines and feed presses for quails and crickets to ensure clean food for livestock, reducing input costs. Thanks to bold investment, now each year after deducting expenses, Sa's family earns a profit of more than 100 million VND from raising crickets and quails.

Focus on replicating the model

It can be seen that the movement of farmers competing in good production and business in the districtXiangyangIn recent times, it has been widely implemented, attracting a large number of cadres and farmer members to participate, contributing to promoting socio-economic development.

Currently, the district has 145 villages and hamlets with associations, with a total of 9,971 members/15,837 farmer households, accounting for 62%. In the past 5 years alone, the District Farmers' Association has coordinated with specialized agencies to organize 201 training courses on transferring science and technology to 9,820 farmer members; organized 20 vocational training courses on weaving, brocade weaving, cattle raising, corn growing, safe vegetable growing... for 661 members.

In order to encourage households to participate in the movement, every year, Farmers' Associations at all levels, based on the registration list at the beginning of the year and the achieved criteria, make decisions to recognize households that have achieved the title of good production and business, and then propose People's Committees at all levels to commend and reward collectives and individuals with many outstanding achievements in good production and business in the locality.

In the period 2016 - 2020, the number of households achieving the title of Outstanding Farmers in Good Production and Business was 431, of which 364 households were commended at the grassroots level, 62 households at the district level, and 5 households were elected to attend the provincial commendation meeting. It is worth mentioning that the quality of households achieving the title of Excellent Production and Business at all levels has changed clearly and more practically than before. Some communes have a high rate of households achieving Excellent Production and Business such as Tam Quang commune, Thach Giam town, Nhon Mai, Tam Thai...

Many typical farming households have demonstrated good production and business according to new scientific, technical and technological standards such as: Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Dung's household in Hoa Bac block, Thach Giam town with a biosafety pig farming model; Mr. Tran Phuc Dao's household in Hoa Bac block, Thach Giam town, implementing a model of growing melons in greenhouses using new technology; Mr. Nguyen Huu Due's household in Bai So, Tam Quang commune, with a model of fattening cows; Mr. Lo Van Viet's household in Tan Hop village, Tam Thai commune, with a model of building boats to serve the needs of people in and outside the district,...

According to Mr. Hau, despite facing many difficulties and challenges, especially natural disasters and epidemics, in the coming time, the Tuong Duong Farmers' Association will continue to promote the emulation movement for good production and business among all people. Specifically, continue to promote and innovate the work of supporting farmers to develop suitable types and objects of production and business associated with support in capital, materials, and transfer of science and technology to improve the quality and efficiency of production and business; have a vocational training plan for farmers to continuously improve the level of intensive production, help farmers access and effectively exploit investment policies for agriculture, farmers, and rural areas and mobilize maximum capital sources, new science and technology, contributing to increasing product value and competitiveness, developing a sustainable agriculture.

Bringing the movement to in-depth development, creating a basis for bringing technical advances and new technologies into agricultural production and calling for investment, transforming the structure of crops and livestock, promoting agricultural and rural development according to the value chain, contributing to the successful implementation of the program of building each commune with at least one product and the program of building new rural areas. Every year, over 60% of farming households register to strive and over 40% of registered households achieve the title of Good Farmer in Production and Business at all levels.

Along with that, implement the direction of association, cooperation, solidarity and mutual assistance in production and business. Promote the association between production and business models, between good production and business farmers to help each other, share experiences, and develop large-scale commodity production. Promote product promotion and market search for farmers.

Strengthen coordination and act as a bridge for good production and business households to sign production and consumption contracts for agricultural products for farming households. Build and replicate advanced and excellent models and examples suitable for each region. At the same time, every year, the association at all levels organizes classification and clarification of the causes of poor and near-poor households to have specific measures to help members and poor farmers have the conditions to rise up from poverty and strive to become good production and business farming households.
