Japan discovers large stolen warehouse of Vietnamese group

Three Vietnamese were arrested when about 1,700 stolen products were discovered at a house in Saitama Prefecture, Japan.

SankeireportThe suspects arrested were Pham Trong Ha, 26, and two others whose identities have not been released. All three are unemployed.

On August 6, at Ha’s home in Kawaguchi City, Saitama Prefecture, they found about 1,700 stolen items, including 300 products of medicine and cosmetics. These items were apparently stolen by groups of Vietnamese people and brought here to be gathered before being transported to Vietnam for consumption.

Ha was arrested by police following the testimony of a fellow countryman who had participated in a robbery in May. The young man admitted to stealing and possessing stolen goods.

Shoplifting is the most common crime committed by Vietnamese people, with more than 2,000 cases recorded last year. There are currently about 260,000 Vietnamese people living in Japan without permanent residence cards, a six-fold increase from 2008.
