Japan asks North Korea to release abducted citizens

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe warned North Korean leader Kim Jong-un that Tokyo would withhold economic aid if Pyongyang did not resolve the issue of Japanese citizens abducted by the country decades ago.

Japan believes North Korea kidnapped at least 17 of its citizens in the 1970s and 1980s to train agents as spies.

After decades of denial, North Korea admitted in 2002 that it had abducted 13 of them and allowed five to return to Japan. Pyongyang said the remaining eight were dead, but Japanese officials and their families did not believe that.

Michael Krazius, deputy director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, said President Donald Trump will allow artificial intelligence technology to “grow freely.”

Speaking at the first-ever US government meeting on artificial intelligence, Krazius said: “The federal government will do its best to give scientists and technologists the freedom to research and develop the next generation of great inventions.”

Companies and experts say that in the fields of privacy and cybersecurity, artificial intelligence is raising ethical concerns. In addition, future artificial intelligence will force humans to be "fired" in some fields.

Krazius said it was difficult to avoid the impact on jobs from artificial intelligence, but hoped “the market will eventually resolve this contradiction”.
