Many upland rice fields in Ky Son are at risk of being lost after floods.
(Baonghean.vn) - Due to the impact of continuous rain and floods in recent days, many upland rice fields of farmers in Ky Son district have been damaged by landslides, erosion and washing away, many households are facing the risk of serious food shortages.
In 2018, Ms. Ngan Thi May's family in La Ngan village, Chieu Luu commune planted over 50 kg of rice seeds. According to Ms. May, with this amount of seeds, her family annually harvests from 40 to 50 bags of new rice. This is considered the main source of income for the family throughout the year. However, while the rice plants were growing well, after storms No. 3 and No. 4, half of Ms. May's upland rice area had yellow leaves and then died, making Ms. May very worried.

Mr. Moong Binh Tu, Deputy of La Ngan village, shared: "Currently, in the village, every household's rice field has dead rice, even in some households, more than half of the rice field has died. People are very worried, in addition to the fear of hunger, they are also worried about not having new rice to worship their ancestors according to custom."

According to Mr. Mac Van Man, an officer in charge of agriculture in Chieu Luu commune, after receiving information that many fields of upland rice of local people in the commune had died en masse, the commune officers went to check and verify.

According to Mr. Chuong Van Anh, a land officer of Muong Ai commune: "Currently, the commune is making a list to report to the district to ask for funding to support the people because currently, people are facing many difficulties due to the impact of the recent floods."
