“Happy houses” on red soil

Previously, Ms. Nguyen Thi Sinh's family in Hamlet 5, Nghia An Commune (Nghia Dan) was a poor household. Her husband was often sick, her children were still young, and for many years she had to live in a small house made of bamboo. Many times the Commune Women's Union came to encourage her family to make efforts to rebuild a new house, but she did not dare to think about it.

With the support of 20 million VND from the District "For the Poor" Fund, along with the help of relatives and neighbors, a new spacious 3-room house with a corrugated iron roof was recently built with a total cost of more than 200 million VND.

Ms. Sinh shared: “My husband and I have been married for 13 years. We are in difficult circumstances, our house is in disrepair and we cannot afford to repair it. Now that we have received help from all levels and sectors, our family has managed to borrow money to build a new house. We are extremely excited.”

In the same situation as Ms. Sinh, in Hamlet 5, Nghia Hung Commune, Ms. Luong Thi Ly's family is also very difficult, both of her children have congenital diseases, the whole family lives in a makeshift house, not enough to protect from the sun and rain. Sympathizing with her family's situation, Nghia Hung Commune mobilized cadres, party members, social organizations and philanthropists along with the people to support materially, contribute labor days to help Ms. Ly and her husband build a house.

Thanks to that, today the family has a fairly solid house. Ms. Ly said: “My husband and I sold a small cow for 10 million VND, received support from the commune front for another 10 million VND, then borrowed from relatives and neighbors to support the labor, helping the family have a new house worth 90 million VND. Living in the new house, all family members are very happy.”

It is known that this year, the "For the Poor" Fund of Nghia Dan district has helped 14 extremely disadvantaged households to eliminate temporary houses and build new, spacious and solid houses with a total amount of 280 million VND. The "For the Poor" Fund of the communes mobilized 450 million VND, supporting 18 disadvantaged households to build new houses, contributing to the work of hunger eradication, poverty reduction and implementation of new rural construction criteria.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hai - Vice Chairman of the Fatherland Front Committee of Nghia Dan district said: "To carry out the elimination of temporary houses for the poor in difficult circumstances, every year, the Fatherland Front Committee of the district directs organizations to coordinate with localities to review poor households and those with housing difficulties to support them in building or repairing them. At the same time, encourage the poor to save, borrow more and mobilize relatives and family members to help with working days. With this method, many families have new, spacious and solid houses."
