(Baonghean.vn) - Many households in Anh Son district have converted ineffective fertile land to grow flowers. The model shows that flower plants are suitable for the local soil and climate.

These days, flower growers in Anh Son are busy planting and taking care of flowers to prepare for the Tet market.

Mr. Nguyen Van Liem's family in village 323, Dinh Son commune is taking care of lush green chrysanthemum bushes. His family started experimenting with growing flowers in 2016, after going to Hanoi to learn about flower growing experience. At first, he invested in planting 10,000 chrysanthemums of all kinds on inefficient land. After more than 3 months of planting and caring for the flowers, they grew well. With the selling price at that time of 3,000 VND/branch, after deducting expenses, the profit was over 10 million VND.

This year, he continued to grow 30,000 chrysanthemums from the self-saved seeds of last year's Tet flower crop. In addition, he planted 2,000 gladiolus bulbs bought in Da Lat.

"I planted the flowers this year in early October of the lunar calendar. In order for the flowers to bloom in time for Tet, in addition to planting at the right time and technique, the weather plays a very important role. The current weather is quite favorable, and the flowers are currently growing well," said Mr. Liem.

The family of Mr. Nguyen Van Duc in village 6, Tao Son commune was the first household in the commune to bring chrysanthemum varieties back to grow. This year, seeing favorable weather at the beginning of the season, he invested more capital to grow more than 3,000 chrysanthemum plants of various types.

According to Mr. Duc, depending on the type of flower, the time to plant the seeds is different. To have flowers harvested at the same time during Tet, you must regularly take care of them every day, fertilize, spray pesticides, trim the tops...; promptly "detect diseases" and treat them at the root. In particular, after planting, you must turn on the electricity until harvest; the electric light will stimulate the plants to grow well.

In recent years, realizing that growing flowers brings high profits, some households in Cam Son, Dinh Son, Khai Son, and Tao Son communes have taken advantage of their land to test a Tet flower growing model with an area of nearly 1 hectare.

According to calculations by flower-growing households, each sao of land brings in an income of 10 - 12 million VND, 2 - 3 times higher than other crops. From the success of growing Tet flowers, in the coming time, the district will promote and expand to localities with suitable land conditions, contributing to increasing income and improving people's lives.
