(Baonghean.vn) - These days, the weather is hot, so healthy cooling vegetables are the top choice of consumers, thanks to which vegetable growers in Anh Son also have extra income to improve their lives.

Every afternoon, Ms. Tran Thi Ha's family in village 6, Thach Son commune is busier because they prepare vegetables to go to the market. Ms. Ha excitedly said: In recent years, understanding the consumption needs of people in the summer days is to use cool vegetables and fruits such as: amaranth, Malabar spinach, bitter melon, so the family has rotated to grow more than 2 sao of vegetables of all kinds.

Although the weather is not very favorable, hot and sunny, thanks to proactive irrigation, vegetables grow well, providing daily income.Currently, Malabar spinach, amaranth, and sweet potato leaves cost 2-3 thousand VND/bunch, bitter melon costs 15 thousand VND/kg; winter melon costs 10 thousand VND/kg, on average, each day we earn 100 - 150 thousand VND from these vegetables.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngo, village 1, Thach Son commune, chose pumpkin as the main crop for her family during the summer. Although pumpkin is grown out of season, thanks to her mastery of the technique and careful care, her family's 3 sao of pumpkin has a high yield, reaching 1 ton/sao. In addition to harvesting the fruit, Ms. Ngo also takes advantage of the pumpkin tops and flowers to sell as vegetables. Currently, pumpkin costs 4-5 thousand VND/kg, this pumpkin crop Ms. Ngo's family earned over 10 million VND, twice as much as growing other crops previously.

In recent years, the people of Thach Son commune have been very quick in choosing crops suitable for the weather for easy consumption. During hot weather, the demand for vegetables is even greater, so the locality encourages people to expand the vegetable growing area in areas with proactive irrigation.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Dong - President of the Women's Union of Thach Son commune said: Along with guiding members to grow vegetables suitable for each season, the Women's Union of the commune also established a clean vegetable growing club with a scale of 4 hectares with 50 members participating. Members are trained to grow clean vegetables, use pesticides in the right dosage, follow intensive technical processes... to supply the market to ensure safety.

Currently, the whole Anh Son district cultivates over 300 hectares of various vegetables, concentrated in the communes of Cam Son, Thach Son, Phuc Son, and Tao Son. These areas are used by people to grow vegetables all year round, from mustard greens, amaranth, Malabar spinach to squash, bitter melon, squash, and cucumber. These are easy-to-grow vegetables, with relatively simple care, little risk due to weather, and high income. This specialized vegetable growing model has helped many farmers in Anh Son escape poverty and stabilize their lives.
