Farmers earn high profits from growing sugarcane for juice in hot season
(Baonghean.vn) - These days, the weather is extremely hot, so soft drinks are consumed a lot. This is also an opportunity for sugarcane farmers in Anh Son to earn more income and improve their lives.
As a household with more than 5 years of experience growing sugarcane for juice, on these hot days, Mr. Nguyen Van Tai's family in village 6, Hoa Son commune seems to have no free time because they have to cut sugarcane to import to refreshment shops. Mr. Tai shared: My family has 4 sao of garden land mainly growing sugarcane for juice. The sugarcane variety that our family grows is F34, purple-yellow stems, lots of water, sweet and fragrant, so it sells very well.
According to Mr. Tai, sugarcane is an easy-to-grow plant, requires little care, has few pests and diseases, requires little investment capital but gives higher income than growing other types of plants on the same unit of cultivated area. At first, the family only planted more than 1 sao, but seeing that every year, traders came to order but could not sell, the family increased the area.
To protect the sugarcane from falling, in 2016, his family invested more than 40 million VND to build a support pole system. Thanks to careful care, Mr. Tai's family's sugarcane yielded 5.5 - 6 tons/sao, with the current price of 35,000 VND/sao, after deducting expenses, his family earned an average profit of 15 million VND/sao.

These days, Mr. Dao Van Thi in village 6, Tao Son commune is also busy harvesting sugarcane to import to traders. According to Mr. Thi: Compared to growing other crops, growing sugarcane for juice is much more effective without worrying about drought and floods because sugarcane is more resistant to drought and floods. The main harvest season for sugarcane for juice starts from March to August every year, this is the time when the weather is hot, the demand for sugarcane juice increases, so the output is very favorable.
With 4 sao of sugarcane for juice pressing, in 2017, after deducting expenses, Mr. Thi's family earned over 50 million VND. In addition to selling the plants, the family can also use the tops as food for cattle. In particular, when growing sugarcane for juice pressing, he does not need to worry much about transportation costs because it is all handed over to traders.

Currently, the model of growing sugarcane for juice has spread to many localities in Anh Son district such as Hoa Son, Tuong Son, Cam Son, Lang Son, and Tao Son. Most of this sugarcane area is converted from ineffective fertile land.
According to sugarcane growers, this is a short-term industrial crop, with the characteristics of being strong, easy to grow, not picky about soil, so it can be grown on many different types of soil. The average yield is 5 tons/sao, with a price of 300 - 350,000 VND/quintal, sugarcane growers earn an average of 15 million VND/sao, many times higher than other crops.
