Nghe An mountainous farmers earn billions from raising ducks at home
Mrs. Dau Thi Thu's family in the mountainous commune of Nghia Hanh, Tan Ky district (Nghe An) invested in raising ducks indoors and installed a cooling system to earn high profits.
Follow the concrete road into the mountainous area of Dong Du hamlet, Nghia Hanh commune,Tan Ky district, we were surprised by the duck farm with thousands of ducks raised in 2 barns equipped with a cool, steam-cooled system. The owner of the duck farm is Mrs. Dau Thi Thu's family, a farmer who dares to think, dares to do and is sensitive to the market.

Ms. Thu said that in 2022, her family invested nearly 4 billion VND to build 2 camps.duck farmingThanks to the installation of an industrial fan cooling system that sucks water vapor, the temperature in the barn is always at 27 degrees Celsius. Therefore, even though the weather is extremely hot like the previous days, above and below 40 degrees Celsius, the inside of this barn is still cool. Indeed, stepping into the barn area, the air is as cool as sitting in an air-conditioned room.
The most impressive thing is the duck houses, inside each house is installed with a blue plastic mesh floor, designed about 50 cm above the ground so that the ducks can stay on a high, airy, clean floor. Therefore, all duck waste is also treated with a Biogas tank. Therefore, even raising 120,000 ducks at a time, it still ensures environmental hygiene.

At first, the family raised ducks under a contract system, all breeds, food, etc. were supplied by a company, and all commercial duck products until the day of sale were purchased by the company. This form of raising ducks is safe, there is no need to worry about output, however, the profit is not as good as selling on the free market.
After learning about the consumer market in big cities, in 2023, the family switched from contract farming to household farming, taking care of input and output themselves. All products were purchased by traders from Da Nang City, Hanoi, Bac Ninh... directly at the farm. Because they raised hybrid ducks, after nearly 2 months of raising, the ducks reached a weight of 3.7kg/duck and were popular in the market.
The selling price depends on the time, but currently the lowest market price is 38,000 VND/kg, and sometimes it goes up to 45,000 VND/kg. Each year, she sells 5 batches of 60,000 pigs, with an average price of more than 40,000 VND/kg, and each year, Ms. Thu's family earns over 1 billion VND.

"Although raising a large number of ducks, due to the application of automatic feeding equipment, only 2 regular workers are needed to meet the demand. In addition, the ducks are fully vaccinated against diseases, so the success rate is high, and there are almost no epidemics. Restaurants in big cities mainly use large ducks to prepare dishes, so raising grass ducks is not suitable, but this hybrid duck must be raised. Due to the large market demand, while in the province ducks are mainly raised traditionally, so "supply does not meet demand"", Ms. Dau Thi Thu shared.
Nghe An is a locality with many advantages to develop the livestock industry, in which duck farming is a strength. Many families have invested in building farms and traditional duck farms, with the purpose of getting eggs and commercial ducks. However, to reach the large market, investing in raising ducks in air-conditioned houses is a new direction that needs to be expanded.
