Farmers in coastal areas exploit groundwater for production

(Baonghean.vn) - For vegetable production, daily irrigation water is the most essential thing, so farmers in the coastal areas of Quynh Luu district invest in digging and drilling wells right in the fields to get underground water, proactively providing water for vegetables.

The sprinkler irrigation system was self-made and installed in the fields by the people of Quynh Luong commune, costing about 2 million VND for 1 sao of land. The soil is sandy, so it drains quickly, so on hot days, farmers plug in the electricity to water 4 times a day, each time for 20 minutes, enough moisture for 4 hours.

The mist spraying system does not affect the leaves of vegetables, especially newly planted vegetables. Using this mist spraying system also saves about 30% of water compared to direct watering with a hose.

Farmers in Quynh Bang commune have invested in digging wells and installing water pumps right in their fields. The coastal area of ​​Quynh Luu district has 700 hectares specializing in growing vegetables. Currently, farmers have proactively invested in digging and drilling wells right in their fields, providing irrigation water for 100% of the area, of which 200 hectares have been installed with a sprinkler system, which is very convenient.

Mr. Ho Mau Quyen, hamlet 6, Quynh Luong commune, Quynh Luu district said: To dig a 15m deep well, the cost is 8 million VND, along with the cost of pulling electricity, installing a pump, a rotating nozzle system... about 7 million VND. Mr. Quyen said: Every day, when it's time to water the vegetables, I just plug in the power, turn the control valve, and the irrigation system works, I don't have to struggle holding the hose like before.

The well of Mr. Lam's family in Hamlet 8, Quynh Luong Commune, has just been dug and the sewer has been installed, all that remains is to install a pump to make it work. The well is 15m deep and has a cement sewer from the bottom up. The total cost of digging the well is about 15 million VND.

In addition to dug wells, there are also drilled wells. The cost of drilled wells is lower than that of dug wells, and the amount of water is less. Therefore, drilled wells only operate for 15 minutes before having to stop the machine to let the underground water return, and can be pumped again after 10 minutes. The type of pump that vegetable growers often use is made in the former Soviet Union, has high durability, and strong suction.

However, many families do not have the conditions to invest in a rotary sprinkler system, so they have to use a direct watering hose, so it is more difficult and requires experience in watering each type of vegetable, especially newly planted vegetables, which need to be watered in a way, otherwise the soil will bury the vegetable leaves.

To provide on-site electricity for vegetable growers, localities in the coastal areas of Quynh Luu district support investment in extending low-voltage power lines to the fields.
