Female teacher with billions of dong in debt 'disappears'

A female teacher at a private school in Vung Tau used all sorts of excuses to borrow money from colleagues, friends, and parents. The victims said the amount she borrowed was more than 10 billion VND.

Recently, people living in Vung Tau City were stirred up by the news that Ms. Ta Thi Thu H. (37 years old, English teacher at a private school) had borrowed billions of dong and then fled.

The people who lent money to Ms. H. included colleagues, friends, and even parents of students. Some lent at least a hundred million, others up to 600-700 million VND.

The victims accused Ms. H. of borrowing billions of dong and then running away.

Having a child studying English at Ms. H.'s center, when this female teacher mentioned borrowing money because of family difficulties or a sick relative, Ms. Ha Thi Binh (40 years old, residing in Thang Nhat ward, Vung Tau city) and her husband immediately gave her money.

According to Ms. Binh, at first, Ms. H. only borrowed a few dozen million, and paid back the principal and interest on time. Later, this teacher asked to borrow many times more money.

'Because we trusted her last time, my husband and I borrowed money from relatives to give to Ms. H, an amount of hundreds of millions. However, when the payment deadline came, the female teacher was nowhere to be seen.

I recently heard that Ms. H. had run away, so I was worried and tried to call but couldn't get through. Now I don't know how to get my money back' - Ms. Binh said, adding that another parent also lent Ms. H. 100 million VND.

Also with the method of borrowing a small amount at first, and paying the principal and interest on time, Ms. H. borrowed 600 million VND from Ms. Tr. (a secondary school teacher) and 700 million VND from Ms. NTTH (37 years old, a teacher at a school in Ward 7, Vung Tau City, and a friend from college).

During coffee breaks, H. bragged that she owned an English teaching center and that her husband was the deputy head of an oil and gas company - Ms. H. said and shared that she trusted her friend so she lent him such a large amount of money.

The victims also said that the amount of money Ms. H. borrowed was up to more than 10 billion VND.

After his wife owed money, Ms. H. was not at home either.

According to the victims, over the course of 2 days (December 13-14), Ms. H.'s family met with them and presented a commitment that was said to have been left by the female teacher stating that "the borrowed money was used for business, but due to the business not going well, all of it was lost."

This female teacher also "apologized to those who lent her money and hoped for a chance to start her life over."

"To have time to work and earn money to pay off the debt, I promise that within 7 years I will work and gradually pay everyone back. I hope for everyone's forgiveness and understanding" - Ms. H. said in the commitment.

The school leaders where Ms. H. works also confirmed that the female teacher owes billions of dong. They are currently unable to contact Ms. H.

In a related development, the victims' complaint about Ms. H's behavior has been accepted by Vung Tau City Police.
