Raising Pangasius Catfish, a new model on Hua Na Hydroelectric Reservoir
(Baonghean.vn)- The Que Phong District Agricultural Service Center is implementing a model of raising snakehead fish in cages on the Hua Na Hydropower Reservoir. Initial results show that this is an effective model with great potential.
The person chosen to be the pilot model is Mr. Lang Van Cuong in Dong Van commune, Que Phong district. It is expected that at the end of November, Mr. Cuong will start harvesting the model of raising snakehead fish on the Hua Na Hydropower Reservoir (Que Phong). The assessment shows that the fish are growing well, opening up new prospects for raising this type of fish in cages on large hydropower reservoirs.

The number of released fry is nearly 16 thousand, raised in many fish cages linked together, with about 314 m3The model is 100% supported by the State for fish cages, breeds, food... total cost 290 million VND.

Mr. Pham Hoang Mai - Director of District Agricultural Service CenterQue Phongsaid: Initial assessment shows that after 5 months of farming, the survival rate of fish is high and stable, the weight of fish has reached 500g/fish. This is the first model of raising snakehead fish to be implemented in the Hua Na Hydropower Reservoir. It is expected that the partial harvest will be carried out at the end of November. All commercial snakehead fish have been linked to Hua Na Seafood Processing Cooperative for consumption. The current selling price of snakehead fish is 120,000 VND/kg.

The water surface of Hua Na Hydropower Reservoir is large, which is favorable for developing aquaculture using cages. Therefore, for a long time, thanks to the support programs of the State, local people have invested in raising many types of fish such as: sea bass, red tilapia, climbing fish... bringing high economic efficiency.
