Republican US presidential candidate Donald Trump said he will meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at Trump Tower in New York on the morning of September 27 (New York time).

Mr. Donald Trump posted on his account on the social network Truth Social a letter from President Zelensky, in which he requested a meeting and Mr. Zelensky addressed it as “Dear Donald.”

“President Zelensky has requested a meeting with me and I will meet him tomorrow morning at approximately 9:45 (20:45 Hanoi time) at Trump Tower,” Mr. Trump said at a press conference on September 26 (New York time).

At the same time, after hearing a journalist say that President Zelensky thought Mr. Trump did not understand the conflict in Ukraine, Mr. Donald Trump "sarcastically" asked whether he should cancel the meeting or not.

Previously, Time magazine reported that President Zelensky did not agree to meet former US President Donald Trump at Mr. Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate, because this could be seen as a show of support for Mr. Trump's election.

At a campaign event on September 23 in Pennsylvania, commenting on President Zelensky's trip to the US, candidate Donald Trump said: "I see Zelensky here. I think Zelensky is the greatest salesman in history - every time he comes to this country, he brings in $60 billion."

At the event, Mr. Trump also said that the Ukrainian leader "really wants" his Democratic opponent - Ms. Kamala Harris, to win this year's election race, but did not give detailed reasons.

The Republican candidate also reiterated his plan to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict by calling Russian President Putin and Ukrainian President to urge them to reach a peace agreement, in case he is re-elected in November.

Ukrainian President Zelensky began his visit to the United States on September 22 with a visit to an ammunition factory in Scranton, Pennsylvania. A group of Republican lawmakers have called for an investigation into the trip, saying it may involve violations of US law, including a law that prohibits federal officials from engaging in political activities while on duty.
