Diabetes is now among the top 10 causes of death and disability in both sexes, causing serious cardiovascular complications, nerve damage, kidney failure, infections and foot damage that can lead to amputation.
In particular, type 2 diabetes previously only occurred in adults, but recently, the disease has been detected in children. In Nghe An alone, there are currently 2,119 subjects screened, of which 1,189 cases have diabetes, the number of people with pre-diabetes is 930.
To limit the increase of this disease, Dr. Dau Huy Hoan - Deputy Director of the Department of Health and Head of the Provincial Diabetes Prevention Project Executive Board called on authorities at all levels, departments, unions, international organizations, medical units and the community to pay more attention and join hands to promote socialization in diabetes prevention activities in Nghe An.
Diabetes prevention recommendations 1. Each person needs to have a healthy diet, maintain a reasonable weight, increase physical activity at least 30 minutes a day, not smoke and not abuse alcohol to prevent diabetes in particular and non-communicable diseases in general. 2. Regular health check-ups and blood sugar tests at medical facilities, especially for people over 40 years old, are the most effective measures to detect the disease early. 3. People with the disease can still live healthy and have a normal life if it is detected early, they comply with taking medication and follow a diet and exercise regimen as advised by their doctor. |
