At 3:30 a.m. on May 4, at the border belt area, the working group of Thong Thu Border Guard Station discovered 3 subjects, including: Le Duy Tuyen (born 2002); Le The Chi (born 1986); Hoang Van Hieu (born 1981), all residing in Tinh Gia district, Thanh Hoa, who had crossed the border without completing exit and entry procedures as prescribed.

Through investigation and verification: On March 13, 2020, all 3 cases above left the country to Laos through Kheo border gate (Kheo village, Bat Mot commune, Thuong Xuan district, Thanh Hoa province), with a (legal) passport to work as hydropower workers for Trung Son Company to build Nam Sam 1A Hydropower Plant (Laos) in Xop Pen village, Sam To district, Hua Phan, Laos.

However, according to the subjects, due to little work, low income, difficult living conditions, and lack of food, they sought to illegally enter Vietnam. The subjects chose to go through the border of Thong Thu commune (Que Phong) because the hydropower plant is located near this area, and on the other hand, the means of transportation from the workplace to the Kheo border gate (Thanh Hoa) is not convenient.

Currently, Thong Thu Border Guard Station has taken measures to measure body temperature and disinfect 3 cases of illegal border crossing. At the same time, it has coordinated with local authorities to organize centralized quarantine according to regulations.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Tien Dung - Head of Thong Thu Border Guard Station said: Currently, the Lao Government continues to extend the closure of border gates until May 17, 2020, so illegal entry across the border will continue to be complicated.
