(Baonghean.vn) - Developing livestock farming in conjunction with environmental protection, creating clean products, competing in the market, and increasing income are the goals that many livestock farming households in Nghi Hoa commune (Nghi Loc) are aiming for. To achieve that, farmers here have been maintaining many measures to increase livestock growth and strengthen environmental sanitation.

Mr. Nguyen Van Diep's family in Van Tai hamlet, Nghi Hoa commune has a tradition of raising pigs for meat. Previously, because they raised pigs at home, the scale was small and the space was narrow, so environmental hygiene was not guaranteed. After receiving the opinions of the government, he decided to rent land from the commune in the Sac Diec area along the Cam River to build a farm. With a spacious space, far from residential areas, his family has the conditions to expand the scale of raising pigs for meat to several dozen while still ensuring environmental hygiene.

Mr. Le Van Tho in Hoa Trung hamlet, who does not have the conditions to open a farm like Mr. Diep, has chosen to overcome environmental pollution by building a biogas tank. Mr. Tho said: "Investing over 15 million VND, although it is expensive, building this gas tank has made the environment of my family and the area cleaner. Thanks to that, I have increased the size of my herd from 15 pigs to 30-40 dozen pigs per litter while still ensuring environmental hygiene."

Not only Mr. Diep and Mr. Tho, but currently in Nghi Hoa, there are hundreds of households investing money to overcome environmental pollution in livestock farming according to the policy of local authorities.

In recent years, livestock farming in Nghi Hoa commune has developed strongly. Meanwhile, the scale of barns, waste and exhaust treatment systems are largely inadequate, so ensuring the environment in livestock farming is a matter of concern. Faced with this situation, the Party Committee and the government of Nghi Hoa commune have organized meetings with people to propagate the Law on Environmental Protection; along with that, grassroots Party cells have developed resolutions on environmental protection that are close to the practical situation in residential areas.

Typically, Hoa Bac hamlet is one of the units that has done this job well. Mr. Truong Quang Vi - Head of Hoa Bac hamlet said: "To ensure the environment, the hamlet executive committee regularly propagates to raise awareness and responsibility of each household in environmental protection in livestock farming. If any livestock household does not ensure environmental hygiene, the hamlet will request the commune to handle it administratively. Mass organizations and self-management groups are responsible for commenting and evaluating, forcing households to seriously implement environmental protection issues".

Along with that, the commune planned the Kho Vom area, the Sac Diec area with low efficiency in rice production, far from residential areas, into a concentrated livestock farming area. Up to now, 7 households have invested in building livestock farms here. The livestock farming households were directed by the Commune People's Committee to build biogas tanks, make waste settling pits or adjust the scale of livestock to suit the conditions of the family's barns. Currently, the whole commune has 106 livestock farming households that have built biogas tanks. In addition, the Commune People's Committee coordinated with the District Social Policy Bank to create conditions for livestock farming households to borrow capital to treat domestic wastewater and livestock wastewater.

Along with propaganda and direction, the Commune People's Committee regularly inspects and supervises the remediation of environmental pollution in livestock farming in residential areas. There have been 5 cases of violations that were slow to be remedied by the Commune People's Committee. However, because the sanctions are not strong enough, some village officials are afraid of conflict; many households still lack funds to invest in equipment to ensure environmental hygiene, so ensuring environmental hygiene in livestock farming has not been thoroughly resolved.

To solve this problem, Nghi Hoa Commune People's Committee is building a project to develop livestock farming associated with environmental protection for the period 2016 - 2020 with solutions such as: Planning some highland areas, far from residential areas where rice production is ineffective to encourage households to rent land to build models; Mobilizing people to continue building biogas tanks; Strengthening inspection and handling of households that violate regulations...

Currently, Nghi Hoa commune has 1,300 cattle and 24,000 poultry. The production value from livestock each year reaches over 30 billion VND, accounting for 65% of the agricultural sector and livestock here achieves a growth rate of 7 to 10%/year. Although there are still many difficulties, the Party Committee, the government and the people of Nghi Hoa are making great efforts to develop local livestock sustainably, ensuring environmental sanitation in residential areas.
