“Behind the articles” is a non-stop journey of journalists, the struggles on the path to finding the truth. On the occasion of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day, June 21, we – the journalists of Nghe An Party have the opportunity to share unforgettable memories… on the paths of work. This is just a small slice for readers to understand more about the noble but also dangerous profession of journalism.
1.Haunted journey of "cross-border fetal trafficking"
After more than 9 years of writing for newspapers, the trip to find information to write about the cross-border trafficking of fetuses has left me with the most memories. But those are sad memories about the lives of people in the highlands of Nghe An.
At the end of November 2018, from the source of the facility, there was a situation in Ky Son district where a number of pregnant women suddenly “disappeared” mysteriously. Some returned a few months later and did not see their children, but some had no information from their families. Concluding that this was a method of trafficking fetuses across the border, reporter Tien Hung and I reported to the department leaders and the Editorial Board about this topic and started our journey.
The first place we “stopped” was the People’s Committee of Huu Kiem Commune. Chairman of the People’s Committee of Huu Kiem Commune, Mr. Nguyen Huu Luong, suddenly became sad when listening to the reporter discuss the situation of cross-border fetal trafficking. Mr. Luong said that the commune was aware of this problem and had compiled a list of pregnant women who had just returned to the locality, but there was no radical solution to prevent it. A long list with the names and ages of 23 women, mainly from Dinh Son 1 and Dinh Son 2 villages, was provided to the reporter by the Huu Kiem Commune Police.
