Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee inspects storm prevention and control work in coastal localities
(Baonghean.vn) - On the afternoon of October 14, comrade Nguyen Van Thong - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee led a working delegation of the province to directly inspect storm prevention and control work in coastal districts.
Due to the direct impact of storm No. 7, since the morning of October 14, coastal districts of the province have had heavy rain, some places very heavy rain. According to initial forecasts, storm No. 7 directly affected Quynh Luu district and Hoang Mai town.
In that situation,Comrade Nguyen Van Thong - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party CommitteeHe inspected the sea dike project in Quynh Tho commune. This dike is 1.9km long, of which 1.1km is a critical section through 3 villages: Tho Thang, Tho Dong, Tho Tien that has been upgraded, with a total estimated cost of 20 billion VND.

After more than 5 months of construction, the project has completed 80% of the volume. However, about 20% of the roof has not been reinforced yet. Therefore, when there is heavy rain, high tides can erode and affect the project.
After listening to the report from the leaders of Quynh Luu district and the Irrigation Department, comrade Nguyen Van Thong requested the district and functional units to focus on plans to protect the project; at the same time, arrange enough machinery and human resources to respond promptly if an incident occurs, ensuring the safety of people living near the foot of the dike.

The Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee also inspected the boat anchorage area atLach Quen portand Lach Con. At the time of inspection, more than 1,200 boats of Quynh Luu district and 980 boats of Hoang Mai town had returned to safe anchorage, carefully tied up.

The Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee emphasized that, althoughstorm number7 has weakened before making landfall, but the viewpoint is not to be subjective or negligent, because the circulation after the storm can cause heavy rain. Quynh Luu district and Hoang Mai town need to closely monitor and grasp the situation, have plans to prevent flooding when sea levels rise, ensuring the safety of people and property.

Next,Comrade Nguyen Van Thong also inspected the Vuc Mau reservoir project in Hoang Mai town. This is the largest reservoir project in Nghe An province to date. Currently, the water level in the lake is 18.53m high. When the water level rises and is reinforced to 22.72m, the lake will open 5 discharge gates simultaneously.
The Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee emphasized that this is an important irrigation project with a large capacity. Therefore, the management unit and Hoang Mai town need to closely monitor the development of storms and rains; develop flexible water regulation plans, ensuring the safety of the reservoir as well as the property and people in the downstream area.

Although it is forecasted that the district is no longer directly affected by storm No. 7, storm prevention and control work has been carried out seriously and urgently by Dien Chau district. Currently, more than 200 offshore fishing boats of local people have returned to safe shelters.
During a field inspection at Dien Thanh sluice, an aquaculture area in Dien Trung commune, comrade Nguyen Van Thong noted: Currently, a tropical depression is appearing in the East Sea that is likely to strengthen into storm number 8.

Although storm No. 7 has weakened into a low pressure area, it is still forecast to cause widespread rain. Therefore, Dien Chau district needs to closely monitor weather developments and have plans to ensure the property of people in aquaculture ponds.
During the field inspection in localities, comrade Nguyen Van Thong - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee emphasized that from October 16 to 18, the 19th Provincial Party Congress, term 2020 - 2025, will take place.
