During his lifetime, President Ho Chi Minh, together with Prince Souphanouvong and President Kaysone Phomvihane, worked hard to foster the Laos-Vietnam relationship and emphasized that the relationship between Laos and Vietnam is a “special relationship”. He said: “Vietnam and Laos, our two countries/ The love is deeper than the Red River and the Mekong River”.
President Kaysone Phomvihane has repeatedly affirmed: "In the history of world revolution, there have been shining examples of proletarian internationalism, but nowhere and never before has there been such a special, long-lasting, and comprehensive solidarity and fighting alliance"; "Mountains may wear away, rivers may dry up, but the Laos-Vietnam friendship will forever be stronger than mountains and rivers".
