Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue celebrates Tet at Nghe Tinh Port

(Baonghean.vn) - On the afternoon of January 25 (January 1, Canh Ty year), Comrade Vuong Dinh Hue - Politburo member, Deputy Prime Minister visited Cua Lo Port to visit and wish a Happy New Year to the staff and employees of Nghe Tinh Port Joint Stock Company.

Nghe Tinh Port, formerly Ben Thuy Port, was established in 1955 under the General Department of Maritime, Ministry of Transport. In 1979, the Prime Minister permitted the construction of Cua Lo Port as an international seaport in the North Central region. In 2009, implementing the Prime Minister's decision, Nghe Tinh Port was transferred to the Vietnam National Shipping Lines.

By 2015, Nghe Tinh Port had been equitized to become Nghe Tinh Port Joint Stock Company with a charter capital of 215 billion VND, in which the state capital ratio held by the Maritime Corporation is 51% in accordance with the State's policy. Currently, Nghe Tinh Port has a total of nearly 500 officers and employees, operating mainly at Cua Lo Port and partly at Ben Thuy Port.

Continuously over the years, along with the development of the province, goods passing through the Port have continuously grown, each year is always higher than the previous year.

In 2019, the port's cargo volume reached nearly 3.8 million tons, exceeding 26% of its design capacity, of which more than 40% were container cargo; revenue reached 183 billion VND. In 2020, the port is expected to reach an output of over 4 million tons; revenue of over 200 billion VND, profit of over 32.5 billion VND...

Speaking at the New Year's greetings to the staff and workers of Nghe Tinh Port Joint Stock Company, Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue acknowledged the unit's performance, especially praising the staff and workers for "staying on the production front to bring the first shipments of the year to the world and regional markets" despite the Tet holiday.

Emphasizing the importance of seaports for local socio-economic development, the Deputy Prime Minister assessed the importance of the company's ports; and said that in the near future, the port will receive an investment of about 1,000 billion VND to dredge the channel.

Regarding government investment, the State Capital Management Committee at Enterprises will also calculate and call for both state capital and private investment to increase port capacity and invest in dredging channels.

In addition, he also suggested that the State Capital Management Committee, Vietnam National Shipping Lines, and Nghe Tinh Port Joint Stock Company calculate to reduce logistics costs and connect with other multimodal transport methods.

The company also needs to continue to improve its corporate governance capacity, save costs, reduce transportation costs, increase revenue, and increase income for staff and workers.

The Deputy Prime Minister also requested that Nghe An province, Cua Lo town, Nghi Loc district, and relevant provincial agencies continue to pay more attention to supporting and creating the best conditions for Nghe Tinh Port Joint Stock Company to grow stronger.

And in the long term, the company's ports, together with Dong Hoi port, a specialized cement port, will be planned into an international port cluster in Nghe An, contributing to further socio-economic development of the province.

He also suggested that Vietnam National Shipping Lines strive to increase operational efficiency through both maritime transport and port services, including Cua Lo port, an important seaport in the Central region.

Giving gifts and New Year wishes to the staff and workers of Nghe Tinh Port Joint Stock Company, Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue asked the unit to continue promoting its 65-year tradition, continue to strive to become a strong port unit in the port system of Vietnam and have more revenue and more profit.
