According to RIA Novosti on February 14, Vice President JD Vance said in an interview with the Wall Street Journal that the US does not completely rule out the possibility of sending troops to Ukraine.

The article said: "Vice President Vance said the option of sending US troops to Ukraine would be considered if Moscow did not negotiate in good faith.

The Wall Street Journal added that Vice President Vance proposed restarting relations with Moscow if the parties successfully reached an agreement on the Ukraine issue.

“I think this is going to be a deal that shocks a lot of people,” Mr. Vance said.

He added that President Donald Trump could change his stance on Ukraine depending on how the negotiations progress.

Earlier, on February 12, the two leaders of the US and Russia had a phone call that lasted nearly 1.5 hours. According to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, the leaders discussed issues related to the exchange of citizens of the two countries, as well as the settlement of the situation in Ukraine. The two leaders Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump agreed to continue personal contacts, including holding a separate meeting in a third country.

Explaining his decision to speak with his Russian counterpart instead of Ukraine, President Donald Trump said: “I don’t think so. We have to see if Russia wants to make a deal. And I know Mr. Zelensky wants to make a deal.”
