Breakthrough and rise up

In the early days of its establishment, Thu Thuy ward had 879 households with 4,126 people; of which, 49% of the population followed Catholicism. People's lives at that time mainly depended on fishing and seafood, the level of education was low, children had little education, and economic and social infrastructure was almost non-existent. This was also the reason why the local economy faced many difficulties.

Despite facing numerous difficulties and challenges, the Party Committee and people of Thu Thuy ward have promoted the spirit of solidarity, unanimity, creativity, and flexibly applied the Party's guidelines and the State's policies and laws to develop steadily. Thanks to that, after 30 years, Thu Thuy ward has achieved many important achievements, creating positive and comprehensive changes in all fields.

With the advantage of sea tourism, Thu Thuy Ward Party Committee has led the people to exploit the potential to invest and develop increasingly spacious and modern infrastructure. Up to now, the whole ward has 127 accommodation establishments, with 1,823 rooms, capable of receiving and serving 15 thousand guests/day and night; of which, 5 establishments are ranked as meeting 2-4 star standards. The ward has 37 restaurants, 16 cold storages, 21 seafood breeding and trading establishments, supplying goods to many domestic markets, meeting the needs of tourists for relaxation, dining and shopping.

As of August 2024, Thu Thuy ward welcomed and served more than 1.5 million visitors, with revenue from tourism activities reaching more than 650 billion VND.

From a ward with an underdeveloped economy, the total production value in 1995 was only 2.7 billion VND, but now it has reached more than 1,000 billion VND. The economic structure has shifted in the right direction, increasing the proportion of services (72.63%), industry and construction (26.35%), reducing the proportion of agriculture, forestry and fishery (1.02%). The average income per capita in the first 6 months of 2024 of the whole ward reached 194 million VND/year; the poverty rate is only 0.5%, near-poor households are 2%.

Keeping up with the development trend, the residential infrastructure in the ward has also been paid attention to and built synchronously. Currently, there are a number of important projects that have been completed such as: longitudinal road No. 3, Binh Minh road, road No. 2 passing through Cua Lo Parish Church, crossroad No. 4.

In particular, implementing the plan to build a model residential area, from 2021 to present, from the town's socialized resources and promoting internal resources of the people, Thu Thuy ward has built 29 roads and canals with a total cost of more than 600 million VND.

Tourism development

Along with economic development, the cultural and social fields have also achieved important results. Cultural and sports institutions from wards to blocks are increasingly synchronized; cultural, artistic, physical education, sports, and information and propaganda movements are always promoted and widely developed by the locality, attracting the participation of many classes of people; the rate of cultural families annually reaches 90% or more; 100% of blocks meet cultural standards, and wards have cultural and sports institutions that meet national standards.

Taking people as the center, in recent years, education and health care have also been given top priority by the locality. 2/2 schools in the ward have met national standards, invested in construction to be more and more spacious and modern, meeting the teaching and learning requirements of students; the quality of education is constantly improved. The ward health station has been invested by the State to meet standards, the unit has performed well the work of primary health care for the people.

Social security activities, care for policy beneficiaries, meritorious people, families of war invalids and martyrs, support for the poor and people in difficult circumstances are given attention by the ward. In particular, promoting solidarity between non-religious people and Catholics, over the years, religious people in the area have always implemented the policies of the Party and the laws of the State, living a good life and following their religion.

This is also a premise to help local Party Committees and authorities effectively implement Party Resolutions at all levels, build a more and more developed homeland, a more and more prosperous life, and create an atmosphere of solidarity in the community.

Along with that, the work of building the Party and the political system has been constantly strengthened in terms of organization, innovated and improved in terms of quality, content and form of activities. Through 7 Congresses and implementing campaigns to build and rectify the Party, the Thu Thuy Ward Party Committee has been gradually consolidated and improved in all aspects of politics, ideology and organization.

In October 1994, Thu Thuy Ward Party Committee was established with 56 party members, 3 party cells and now has 201 party members, operating in 9 party cells. Annually reviewing and classifying party members, 100% of party members complete their tasks; of which, over 94% of party members complete their tasks well or better. Thu Thuy Ward Party Committee always completes its political tasks well, building a clean and strong Party Committee.

To achieve the above achievements, after 30 years of construction and development, the Party Committee, government and people of Thu Thuy ward have strived continuously, with many long-term and medium-term projects and plans; action programs close to reality, with practical significance in promoting the combined strength of the political system and people; exploiting the local potential to realize the socio-economic development goals.

In the coming time, Thu Thuy ward will continue to inherit the values ​​and achievements gained over the past 30 years to unite and make efforts to focus and effectively implement the targets of the Congress Resolutions at all levels in all fields.
