Putin says he will respond to US missile shield

Russian President Vladimir Putinsaid on June 1 that the US missile shield in Alaska and South Korea is a challenge to Russia.

"This issue is a big concern for us. We have spoken out about it many times over the past decades. It disrupts the strategic balance in the world," the Russian leader said at an economic forum in St Petersburg.

Reuters, Mr. Putin also said that Moscow had no choice but to build up its own forces in response. He said that Russia could not stand idly by while other countries increased their military potential along Russia's borders in the Far East.

On the sidelines of the forum, the Russian President said that the West's concern about Russia is related to the emergence of a multipolar world, which the monopolistic capitalists do not like. He also hopes that the concern about Russia will not last long.

He emphasized that Russia's increase in military potential is to cope with external changes in the context of NATO military alliance bases approaching Russia's borders, while incidents between the two sides are occurring more and more frequently.
