FIFA 2015 Bronze Ball, Barcelona star Neymar will have to appear in court next month.

This time it is not a Madrid court but a Spanish court, the reason revolves around the issue of tax evasion and holding down the real transfer price of Neymar from Santos to Barcelona to reduce taxes.

A Madrid court has asked Spanish state prosecutors to charge Neymar and his father, former Barcelona president Sandro Rosell, president Maria Bartomeu and two Santos club officials with complicity in arranging a fake transfer fee for Neymar to evade taxes. Former Barcelona vice-president Javier Faus has also been called as a witness in the trial.

Two Santos officials tried to “magically” keep only 40% of the transfer fee (on paper) to help Neymar evade many taxes when joining Barcelona in 2013. The previous times Barcelona was caught by the tax authorities over the Neymar case caused two senior Barcelona leaders, including President Rosell, to resign.

According to the Spanish tax authorities, Barcelona evaded around 13 million euros in taxes. With these figures, the prosecutor proposed a prison sentence of 27 months for Bertameu and 7.5 years for Rosell. In fact, the tax evasion from the Neymar transfer was closer to 100 million euros, not 57.1 million euros, a significant loss for the country's tax authorities.
