Figs are not only a delicious snack, but they also have very effective medicinal properties. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, figs are considered a medicinal ingredient.

Figs are also known by other names such as flowerless fruit, heavenly fruit, sun-shining fruit, literary immortal fruit, exquisite immortal fruit, milky fruit, honey fruit, etc. According to modern research, figs contain glucose, sucrose, quinic acid, shikimic acid, oxalic acid, citric acid, malic acid, auxin, trace elements such as calcium, phosphorus, potassium... and some vitamins such as C.

Preliminary experimental pharmacological studies suggest that figs have laxative, blood pressure-lowering, and anti-cancer effects.

In traditional medicine, figs are sweet and neutral in nature, and are used to strengthen the spleen and stomach, moisten the lungs and throat, lubricate the intestines and promote bowel movements, reduce swelling, and detoxify. They are often used to treat conditions such as enteritis, dysentery, constipation, hemorrhoids with bleeding, rectal prolapse, sore throat, cough, insufficient milk production in postpartum women, boils and ulcers, loss of appetite, and rheumatism.

Dosage: Consume 30-60g daily as a decoction or eat 1-2 small bunches raw. Alternatively, use externally by slicing and applying to acupuncture points or affected areas, boiling in water for washing, or drying, powdering, and sprinkling or blowing onto the affected area.

Some specific uses:

- Sore throat:Dried fresh figs are ground into powder and a small amount is blown into the throat, or fresh figs are peeled, sliced, and boiled to extract the juice. Rock sugar is added, and the mixture is simmered over low heat until it forms a paste, which is then sucked on daily.

ButDry cough without phlegm:Take ripe figs, wash them thoroughly, crush them, and squeeze out the juice to drink once a day.

- Gastric and duodenal ulcers:Dried figs are ground into powder; take 6-9 grams with warm water 2-3 times a day.

- Weak spleen and stomach, or digestive disorders:Take 30g of figs, chop them finely, and lightly roast them until slightly charred. For each serving, take 10g and steep in boiling water in a sealed container. After 20 minutes, it's ready to drink. Add a little rock sugar and drink it throughout the day instead of tea.

- Constipation:Boil 9g of fresh figs in water and drink the decoction daily. Alternatively, eat 3-5 ripe figs daily. Or, wash 10 fresh figs, cut them in half, and chop a section of pig's large intestine into small pieces. Simmer both until tender, add seasonings, and consume throughout the day.

- Mothers who have insufficient milk production:120g of fresh figs and 500g of pig's trotters are simmered until very tender. Season with spices and divide into several servings. This recipe is effective in nourishing blood and qi, and promoting lactation. It is very beneficial for postpartum women who are weak, have insufficient blood and qi, and produce little or no milk.

- Arthritis:Fresh figs can be stewed with lean pork in moderation. Alternatively, 2-3 fresh figs can be washed, chopped, and mixed with scrambled eggs.

- Boils and sores:Dried ripe figs are ground into a powder and sprinkled onto the affected area. For best results, the affected area can be soaked and washed beforehand with a decoction of fresh fig fruit or leaves, then dried, the powder is sprinkled on, and it is bandaged.

Additionally, the sap from the fig tree trunk or unripe fig fruit is also used in folk medicine to treat boils and breast swelling.

Specific instructions: Clean the affected area, dry it, and apply fig tree sap directly to the affected area. Apply to the swollen and red areas several times a day. To avoid frequent application, you can mix fig tree sap with young leaves, crush them, and apply the mixture to the affected area. If the boil is not yet filled with pus, cover it completely. If the boil has burst, leave a small opening the size of a corn kernel. If pus has formed and you want to extract the core, crush an onion with the fig tree sap and apply as above, leaving the opening exposed.

Fig tree sap is also used to treat headaches: spread the sap on paper and stick it to both temples. This can be combined with eating young fig leaves or drinking 5 ml of fig tree sap dissolved in cooled boiled water before bedtime.
