Russian troops take full control of Marinka stronghold
(Baonghean.vn) - During a meeting with President Vladimir Putin, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that the Russian army had completely liberated Marinka - a city located in the west of Donetsk province, eastern Ukraine.

“During an active offensive, the assault detachments of the Yuzhnaya group on December 25 took full control of Marinka, southwest of Donetsk,” Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said.
Marinka is considered a stronghold of the Ukrainian forces in the Donetsk region of the Donbass region. According to Minister Shoigu, controlling the city will help protect Donetsk more effectively from the fire of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. At the same time, controlling Marinka will weaken the defense capabilities of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and give the Russian Armed Forces more opportunities.
Defense Minister Shoigu added that during the Marinka offensive, the soldiers of the 150th Division had many particularly outstanding achievements.
President Vladimir Putin noted that those involved in controlling Marinka deserve state awards, and instructed the Defense Minister to prepare proposals for all outstanding people.
President Putin said that full control of Marinka would allow Russia to push Ukrainian forces further away from Donetsk.
"Indeed, there are at least two positive effects here. First, we pushed the enemy's combat units out of Donetsk. By taking control of this fortified area, our troops have the opportunity to advance into a wider operational space. This becomes a new question for the commanders and specialists of the General Staff and the Ministry of Defense," President Putin said.
