Sustainable management and exploitation of coastal resources
(Baonghean.vn) - On the afternoon of August 12, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment held a conference to summarize the integrated coastal zone management (ICM) project of Nghe An province in the period 2011 - 2015, and implement the period 2016 - 2020.
Comrades Dinh Viet Hong - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, member of the National Project Management Board and Vo Duy Viet - Director of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, Head of the Provincial Project Management Board chaired the conference.

Integrated coastal zone management is a method and approach to managing resources and protecting the marine and island environment in a comprehensive manner to achieve sustainable development in coastal areas. The application of Integrated Coastal Zone Management aims to solve sustainable development issues, including preventing and managing natural disasters and human-caused disasters; protecting, restoring, and combating degradation of habitats, ecosystems, and environmental pollution; ensuring food safety and human livelihoods; preventing and combating climate change... Along with that, it is necessary to perfect mechanisms and policies to ensure effective management of resources and environment in coastal areas.
Nghe An is the province that has proactively implemented the method of QLTHDB in the North Central region from the province's own budget; mobilizing all levels, sectors and people to participate. Communication work is given top priority and the affected subjects are diverse, from management officials at all levels to mass organizations, students and people through seminars, training, beach cleaning campaigns, launching a painting contest on the theme of protecting the marine environment.

Speaking at the conference, in addition to pointing out some limitations, Mr. Dinh Viet Hong - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, emphasized: Nghe An coastal zone is posing many challenges in sustainable management and exploitation. To solve the problems, coastal sectors and localities are required to continue to proactively coordinate with the Department of Natural Resources and Environment to select priority contents and activities to ensure sustainable development for each sector and each locality.
The Department of Natural Resources and Environment continues to preside over the organization and improvement of the project's coordination board and coordination office; actively calls for non-budgetary support sources to implement the project. Strengthen propaganda, raise awareness, create changes in the rational and effective exploitation of coastal resources and environment; create a spread among organizations and individuals in the community. Focus on implementing the strategy for coastal management in Nghe An province to 2020, with a vision to 2030 as well as the tasks of the provincial coastal management project in the period of 2016 - 2020 approved by the Provincial People's Committee.
