"Promoting gold buying on God of Fortune Day is a trick of business people"
"Promoting gold purchases on God of Fortune Day is a trick of business people. Buyers will not see any fortune, but sellers will gain profit on the 10th! There is no rule that requires buying gold on God of Fortune Day," said Professor Luong Ngoc Huynh.
Origin of God of Wealth Day
According to belief, the 10th day of the first lunar month every year is the God of Wealth's day. On this day, people often buy gold because they believe that doing so will bring them luck and fortune throughout the year.
Ethnologist Ta Duc said that, according to an ancient legend, Than Tai is a god in heaven. One day, after getting too drunk, he fell to earth, hit his head on a rock, couldn't remember who he was, and had his clothes stolen.

God of Wealth often begged for food everywhere. God of Wealth came to the house where the duck, chicken, and roast pork business was very slow, so the owner of the restaurant brought food out to invite him. Unexpectedly, from the moment God of Wealth entered the restaurant, customers kept coming. The owner of the restaurant saw this and invited God of Wealth to eat every day. After a while, afraid of wasting money, the owner of the restaurant found an excuse to chase him away. From that day on, the restaurant was as slow as before.
God of Wealth passed by a clothing store, saw the clothes that the thief had sold, immediately remembered everything, quickly put on the clothes and flew back to heaven. That day was the 10th day of the first lunar month.
From a research perspective, ethnologist Ta Duc stated that this is a belief in god worship of the Vietnamese people since ancient times, partly influenced by Chinese culture.
According to him, beliefs and culture are both good. However, due to the commercialization of religious activities, many customs and beliefs are being distorted excessively today.
Buying gold on God of Wealth day will bring good fortune all year round?
According to ethnologist Ta Duc, from a religious perspective, in the past, worshiping the God of Wealth only required roast chicken, roast pork, fruits... which were very simple offerings closely related to people's daily lives.
It is not mandatory or customary to buy gold on the "God of Wealth" day, January 10, to have luck and fortune throughout the year. This is just a popular concept.
"We don't judge whether this is right or wrong, but I think this is a mob mentality. Many people, although they don't understand the origin of this custom, see others doing it and follow suit. When the majority of them believe it, of course everyone thinks it's right.
We respect beliefs but not too much. We should behave and act in accordance with our spiritual beliefs depending on the circumstances and life circumstances," Mr. Duc emphasized.
He expressed his opinion that on God of Wealth Day, if anyone has the means to spare, they should buy gold. It is like saving money for the family in case of need. Those who do not have the means to buy it are fine.
Sharing the same opinion with researcher Ta Duc, Professor Luong Ngoc Huynh shared that God of Wealth is a God in heaven, assigned by the Jade Emperor to manage wealth on earth, however, no mortal has ever seen God of Wealth.

In China, people celebrate the God of Wealth Day from the night of the 4th to 12 noon on the 5th day of the Lunar New Year. But they do not rush to buy gold like the Vietnamese.
On the 9th of January, the gate of heaven opens, we can worship the God of Wealth. Every year, the God of Wealth comes from a different direction. This year, Mau Tuat, it comes from the South. However, on the 9th, only those who commit the Tai Tue of the Mau Tuat year, such as those born in the years of Thin, Tuat, Suu, Mui, etc., can worship. Those who do not commit the Tai Tue of the Mau Tuat year do not have to worship.
"Promoting gold purchases on the day of the God of Wealth is a trick of business people. Buyers don't see any fortune, but sellers can make a decent profit on the 10th! If you have a heart for the God of Wealth, prepare a sumptuous meal and burn gold and money to worship the God of Wealth on the morning of the 9th," said Professor Luong Ngoc Huynh.
According to Professor Luong Ngoc Huynh, belief is necessary because belief is the root of religion, making people better, but if you are superstitious or fanatical, it is another matter. Belief is belief from the heart, doing good deeds, working hard to study, learn, work and actively train yourself to progress every day, then wealth, fortune and happiness will gradually come.
