The National Assembly approved the appointment of the Minister of Information and Communications at the 6th Session.

PresentReporting on a number of issues regarding the preparation for the 6th session of the 14th National Assembly at the 27th meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on the afternoon of September 11, Secretary General of the National Assembly Nguyen Hanh Phuc said that the total working time of the National Assembly at the session is expected to be 23 hours.day.

The National Assembly held a preparatory session and opened on October 22, 2018 and is expected to close on November 20, 2018, with the National Assembly scheduled to work on one Saturday of the first week.

National Assembly Chairman: Time should be arranged for the new Minister to make a statement accepting his duties before the National Assembly.

Regarding personnel work, National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan said that the submission to the National Assembly for approval of the dismissal of the Minister of Information and Communications (MIC) will be conducted on the afternoon of October 22 and the approval of the appointment of a new Minister will be carried out the following day.

"After the National Assembly votes to approve the appointment, time should be arranged for the new Minister to introduce himself and make a statement accepting his duties before the National Assembly," the National Assembly Chairman suggested.

As reported, on July 25, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc signed Decision No. 900/QD-TTg assigning the authority of Minister of Information and Communications to Major General Nguyen Manh Hung.

Previously, the Politburo decided to appoint Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung to hold the position of Secretary of the Party Committee of the Ministry of Information and Communications for the 2016-2021 term.

President Tran Dai Quang also signed Decision No. 1261/QD-CTN dated July 23, 2018 on temporarily suspending Mr. Truong Minh Tuan from his position as Minister of Information and Communications.

According to Mr. Nguyen Hanh Phuc, the vote of confidence for those holding positions elected or approved by the National Assembly is expected to be arranged before the question and answer session (taking place before November 2).

Secretary General Nguyen Hanh Phuc also said that the Draft Law on Special Administrative-Economic Units has not been submitted to the 6th Session for further completion. The audit report of the social insurance fund (periodically reported to the National Assembly every 3 years) is sent to delegates for self-study.

Regarding the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Project (Line 1: Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien; Line 2: Ben Thanh - Tham Luong), at the July 2018 meeting, the National Assembly Standing Committee gave its opinion and requested the Government to report to the Government Party Committee to request the Politburo's direction. However, the Government Party Committee has not yet reported to the Politburo, so it is recommended that this content not be added to the meeting's agenda.
