The National Assembly convened the third extraordinary session to review personnel work.
The National Assembly Standing Committee decided to convene the 3rd extraordinary session of the 15th National Assembly to consider personnel matters under the authority of the National Assembly. The 3rd extraordinary session of the 15th National Assembly is scheduled to take place on the afternoon of January 18 at the National Assembly House in Hanoi.

On the afternoon of January 17, Secretary General of the National Assembly Bui Van Cuong issued a press release about the expected 3rd extraordinary session of the 15th National Assembly.
The announcement stated that, based on the Constitution of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Law on Organization of the National Assembly No. 57/2014, which was amended and supplemented by a number of articles under Law No. 65/2020, and the Rules of the National Assembly session issued together with Resolution No. 102/2015 dated November 24, 2015 of the National Assembly, the Standing Committee of the National Assembly decided to convene the 3rd extraordinary session of the 15th National Assembly to consider the content of personnel work under the authority of the National Assembly.

The 3rd extraordinary session of the 15th National Assembly is expected to take place on the afternoon of January 18 at the National Assembly House, Hanoi.
Also this afternoon, the 13th Party Central Committee held an extraordinary meeting and agreed to let Mr. Nguyen Xuan Phuc resign from the positions of Politburo member, 13th Party Central Committee member, and President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
Previously, the National Assembly also held an extraordinary meeting from January 5-9 to consider and decide on many important issues, including personnel matters. Specifically, the National Assembly dismissed Mr. Pham Binh Minh and Mr. Le Minh Chuan from their duties as National Assembly deputies; approved the dismissal of Mr. Pham Binh Minh and Mr. Vu Duc Dam from their positions as Deputy Prime Ministers; and approved the appointment of two Deputy Prime Ministers, Tran Hong Ha and Tran Luu Quang.
The 2014 Law on the Organization of the National Assembly stipulates that among the positions elected by the National Assembly is the position of President. Therefore, the National Assembly will conduct the process of dismissing the person holding the position elected by the National Assembly.
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Phuc was elected President by the National Assembly at the 11th session of the 14th National Assembly on April 5, 2021. At the first session of the 15th National Assembly on July 26, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Phuc was re-elected as President for the 2021-2026 term.
The Party Central Committee agreed to let comrade Nguyen Xuan Phuc resign from his positions.
