(Baonghean.vn) - Speaking at a meeting to discuss the forestry development strategy of Nghe An province, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Hoang Nghia Hieu said that forestry development planning must be consistent with the socio-economic development strategy of the province.
On the afternoon of September 8, the Provincial People's Committee held a meeting to discuss the forestry development strategy of Nghe An province for the period 2021-2030. Comrade Hoang Nghia Hieu - Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee chaired the meeting.
Forest cover reached 58.5%
According to the report of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, in recent years, Nghe An has done a good job in protecting forest capital, currently having 965,056 hectares of forested land, with forest coverage reaching 58.5%. On average, the whole province plants 15,000 hectares of raw material forests every year.Export turnover of timber and non-timber forest productsincreased from 30 million USD in 2010 to 221.2 million USD in 2019. The basic forestry company system was transformed and arranged to suit its functions and requirements.

Nghe An actively cooperates internationally, exploits capital from ODA, World Bank... to implement a number of urgent issues in forestry development such as land issues, capital for natural forest restoration, forest product processing and poverty reduction. In the period 2010-2020 alone, the whole province attracted 161,580 million VND in forestry investment.
However, Nghe An forestry industry still has shortcomings and difficulties. For example, the innovation and development of forestry production organization forms are still slow, small-scale household economy. Forestry land fund is large, but planning and division work3 types of forestsAdjustment is still slow. Land allocation and forest allocation are still slow, forest quality is declining (currently 60% of natural forest area is poor forest). Enterprises have not been attracted to invest in the forest planting sector.

Forestry development in line with industry restructuring
At the meeting, representatives of relevant departments and sectors contributed ideas towards the goal of developing the Forestry sector in the 2020-2035 period.
In the period of 2020-2035, Nghe An forestry sector sets the following goals: Stabilize forest cover at 58.5%, ensure forestry land fund of 1.5 million hectares. Ensure that the area of planted forests is always 20,000 hectares/year.
To achieve the set goals, the province will have policies and investment resources for management, protection, and restoration of natural forests. Forming industrial zones and clusters for processing wood and non-timber forest products with large enough areas to attract investors. Concluding the meeting, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Hoang Nghia Hieu acknowledged the efforts of the forestry sector in recent times, and emphasized that the general goals and vision of forestry planning must be consistent with the province's socio-economic development strategy for the 2021-2030 period, in line with the development orientation.wood processing industryand non-timber forest products.
