Quynh Luu deals with the problem of rats destroying spring rice

(Baonghean.vn) - The warm and sunny weather is favorable for the winter-spring rice crop in Quynh Luu district to grow well, however, farmers are having to deal with the problem of rats destroying the rice.

In the 2017 winter-spring crop, Quynh Luu district planted 7,550 hectares of rice, mainly Thai Xuyen rice. This year, the weather was favorable, so the entire winter-spring rice area grew well, and the rice began to tiller. However, some spring rice areas in some localities such as Quynh Hau, Quynh Giang, Quynh Yen... were being destroyed by rats, causing quite serious damage. On average, each locality damaged 10 - 15% of the rice area.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh in Quynh Giang commune said that her family grows 2 sao of Thai Xuyen rice. In the past few days, she had to go and prune the rice in areas that were damaged by rats. Rats usually destroy rice plants at night, they bite and break the rice stalks.

According to general statistics, in the 2017 winter-spring crop, the whole district had about 5 hectares of rice damaged by rats.

Faced with the above situation, Vice Chairman of the District People's Committee Dang Ngoc Binh inspected and requested people to continue to stay in the fields to take care of, weed the rice, and spray pesticides in a timely manner. For the rice fields damaged by rats, people are recommended to use traps and pesticide residues to kill rats; and increase field visits at night. Damaged rice fields need to be quickly pruned to ensure growth progress as well as crop yield./.
